Sorry Smitty, I was referencing Hunter Mc Duffie from the Sale ad and OHM's comment. I wasn't clear in my posting and was not timely either. Hunter McDuffie was a great guy and his son, little "Hunna" was an active rider at the time.

Sorry MM. I was thinking you were referring to Mr. Fikes! On another note, in the show results above, I notice a good friend of ours tied second in the stake at Broadway, Virginia.

I assume, Big Ed won the Broadway classes and congrats!

MM...Last I heard, Little Hunna was still training bird dogs. He married the former Mindy Traylor from AL. Mindy is a trauma room nurse and her family are avid field trialers. Mindy did show TWH's some...it's been several yrs ago. Her father was Tommy, but I can't recall if their farm was near Union Springs or Montgomery.

Nice photo of Mason, Kim, and Stock. Mason was always decked out in impeccable suits.

That could either be Woody or Lee Lenox - my monitor is dim but I can just see Woody in those britches.

Edward F. "Pop: Geers Gravesite

Ed Franklin "Pop" Geers, was a native of Lebanon, Tennessee, born in 1851. At an early age he showed exceptional talent for training and riding of race horses. By the time he was 20 years old he had already acquired and trained several horses for harness racing. Over the next 50 yrs. Pop Geers became one of the best known and most successful trainer and drivers in the history of that sport. Earlier in life he had moved to Spring Hill, Maury County, and made his home there. On Sep. 3, 1924, at age 70, he was racing in Wheeling, W. Va. when his horse stumbled and `Pop" fell from the sulky. He was subsequently trampled by his horse and died in just a few hours of the injuries. His remains were returned to Columbia and laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The residents of county erected a monument in his memory in the park shown above on W. 7th St. This place is at the foot of Reservoir Hill, Source: "They Passed This Way",. Vol. II, p. 362-363"

The "Pop" Geers Park is on West 7th St. in Columbia about 3 blocks from where most of the recently posted Mule Day photos were taken. The park was restored several years ago after decades of neglect. Saralibeth, who was briefly a member of this site, is turning her Masters thesis on Pop Geers into a book. She is also working on a 160th birthday celebration for "Pop" in 2011.
