Where did the LOGO at the bottom of Gen's Major General's grave marker come from?

I'm pretty sure the logo came from a little, European, (British?) sports car. I remember an ad that David ran on MG that was David holding him in front of an MG Midget.

Regardless, he was a super nice horse.

I must concur with Curbchain on this one. The logo is clearly that of a auto produced by the MG division of the British Motor Company. I have owned many of these over the years, but lost my last one in the divorce settlement to LaFonda Fay. If you chaps see this particular auto cruising around Shelbyville...........it was once mine.

I used to have an MG Midget - I pushed it more than I drove it - glad that it was tiny!

They used that emblem on buttons they passed out at the Celebration. Matter of fact, I ran across one at my house just the other day. It was used in all of his advertisements.

SL, back in '62 when I was working with Don Galloway,he had horses for Dr. Arthur Glover of Midnight Gold Sun fame,and we were hauling broodmares for him and one of them was his prized mare Caroline's Caroline .i wonder if this is the same mare your talking about?

All I know.....Candace showed a mare early-on in her showring career (I believe the first really top winning show horse she had) and the mare was entered at the shows as Caroline's Caroline.........(named, we were told, for Caroline Kennedy who was very young at the time). But you probably also remember, horses' names frequently 'changed' back then and TWHBEA didn't have all the strict registration and transfer rules that are in place now. I guess what I should do is call Betty and make sure.......Wonder if some of the Sexton clan still has the papers??

I know Doc bought a bunch or horses......in fact, he once bought Ace's Sensation (only for a miniscule amount of time at The Celebration the year prior to Wink winning on Ace for Peg and Randall)....Long story about that purchase and I need to check out some of the facts to refresh my memory......but I believe someone had sold Ace to Randall and someone else had sold him to Doc.....

SL,I'm sure you are right.After thinking more about it this mare's name might have been Carolina's Caroline.Your right Doc did have several mares and raised several pretty good colts by ole Gold Sun !

My second show horse was by the Gold Sun horse. His name was Messick's Gold Sun, but my dad changed it to Susie's Gold Sun. He had a motor that wouldn't quit, and the most beautiful canter I have seen to this day.

Still working on verifying the correct name for "Caroline"........but do have concrete info about the Ace situation back around 1968 or 69...

Billy Hale owned Ace and Wink trained the horse for him. Billy wanted to sell him. Claude was looking for another horse to campaign for WGChampion (remember, Royal Heir had won the roses and Candace had won the Amateur on Chatterbox).....and if you remember the horses Claude had, they were trained by Donald....and Wink really wanted to campaign the horse for one of his customers to become WGC.

SO, simultaneous to Billy making the deal with Doc, Wink had Randall as his relatively new customer who purchased the horse for more money than the horse had been priced to Doc.......and the horse went to the highest bidder (even though there was sorta a hullabaloo over the mess......Doc carried the cash for the horse and was handing over the cash for the horse when the deal was stopped by Wink.) Randall had his champion the next year........Doc bought Handshaker's Delight and also won the world and he had a WGC again.....I think Randall paid $100K...........that is the amount I was told in my conversation today with Ray....

Still chasing info about Caroline - I could be wrong......Remember, I'm getting old and old folks can sometimes be confused.

When I was verifying my blurb about Ace to be correct, the person to whom I spoke commented about all the fantastic people from NC who love the TWH......both back then, and now.

Well...........About "Caroline".we're both right.

Doc and Kathrine bought Caroline's Caroline from Cecil Carroll, Mt. Pleasant in May 1963, Registration number 601027. This mare was by Sundust, (old Sundust by Midnight Sun) and out of a mare by Gray John Allen - going back to Hunter's Allen. This is the mare Candace rode when she first began showing, and the one I most vividly remember.

But Doc also owned Ebony's Caroline.....Ebony's Caroline was raised by SW, sold to Billy Hale who then sold the mare to Doc. Doc sold the mare to Anthony Kakassay, and the rest of the owners of Ebony's Caroline were CC Johnson (Colonial Leasing) and the final owner was Lois Ragan.......By the time Doc purchased Ebony's Caroline, his horses were no longer trained in NC instead were trained by Donald Paschal in Woodbury. I believe Ebony's Caroline produced foals. Caroline's Croline died in Oct 1966 and did not produce.........

As I had mentioned in my earlier post, I bought Ebony's Caroline from Billy Hale at the Fun Show in 1973 for $ 15,000. We had just hit a lick on a partnership horse that we owned which was the full brother to Another Masterpiece. which was owned by my uncle (by marriage) Mr. Henry Moore of Monroe, Ohio. Billy Gray had started Caroline when he was working out of the barn that Steve Aymett uses now. I then moved the horse to Doug Wolaver to campaign for the 2 Year Old Filly Class at the Celebration. Since this was the year that the USDA allowed only a 16 ounce SMOOTH boot, I felt that a third place tie was about as good as we could hope for.

About a month after the Celebration, I asked SW to try to find a buyer as I was going through a rough financial period. Shortly thereafter I received a check in the mail for $ 25,000 from Dr. Sexton. SW would not even take a commission. As far as I'm concerned, there was no finer gentleman.

Doug also trained a three year old mare for me named Ebony's Cindy. She wasn't a great mare but she was my first Tennessee bought horse in 1972 before Another Masterpiece won the Junior Stake with Jay Cobb up.

I was with Ray Beech this past Saturday and we enjoyed talking about old times.
