I like the little ad in the bottom corner. Brings back lots of memories - Moonglow's Knight was the first horse that I ever showed - he introduced several children to the show ring. Thanks to MIB's wonderful mother Mary Ellen. She made my first riding coat, it was red, and she would pack up lots of food, random children and head to the shows on Saturday.
MIB is leaving tomorrow with his distinguished self to fly to the west coast to judge a horse show. He is very GRAND!

The article above reminds me of the days after High School, when I graduated from the juvenile to amateur ranks and more importantly from HAVING a trainer, to training a horse MYSELF.

Talk about misadventures.....

Good picture - wonder where that was taken? Love those cars in the background.

I know what happened to two of those horses.
Midnitht Minister showed in North Carolina forever. I can't remember the man's name who showed him.
Dude Crowder was their trainer.

Sun's Bottle and Bond won the 1959 Juvenile Championship with Joe Bales Jr. riding. Bobo was their trainer
in Thomasville, N.C.

1970's photo of the Tattersall's horse sales pavilion in Lexington, Kentucky

Like a Star @ heaven I attended a Saddlebred sale at Tattersalls yesterday for a couple of hours. I have a lot of fond memories from this place, dating way back into the late 70's and I know a lot of TWH folks have visited here at some time or another. It is a very symbolic place. Sadly, yesterday will be the last time I will ever sit in the crowd and watch horses, as the property has been sold. The building and barns will be torn down in the next year to make room for new housing for UK students. This saddens me greatly and makes me feel very old..............perhaps older than I really am.............but it is a sign of the times.

Sunday Bonnett & Marcie Hopkins. This mare won aged mare, ladies & amateur titles in 1956 & '57.
Trained by Wise & Warren of Lewisburg, TN.
In my opinion, this photo is a very nice representation of the TWH for that time.

10 Tucky Stables

OHM stopped in Lewisburg a while back to take these shots of the former Mary & John C. Miller's old place.
I find it incredible to try to imagine all that's gone on here over the years. I'll let OHM elaborate...

Thanks for the photos. I would have thought that farm had been sold years ago. Is that the home in a couple of the pictures?

Yes, that's the home. OHM said the barn was empty now. Here's some of the info OHM sent to me:

OHM said...

"Yes, 10Tucky is beside the Lewisburg/Ellington Airport, on 431. Much of the area has been developed, and a new school was built close to the training barn. The Moons (current owners, who were into padded horses for a short time)....still maintain the barns and grounds. I think Justin Jenne' was the last trainer there."

Here's a satellite view of 10 Tucky. You can see the barn at the entrance, the smallers barns behind to the right and the big house towards the top. Looks like a rding ring near the house in this shot. The developed street across the highway is called "Horseshoe Drive".
