| I don't have a pic of Donnie May and his wife, Janet, but they are oh so nice....My mare had airway laser surgery at Rood and Riddle a couple of years ago. I was up there alone with BEE and they wanted to put her on the treadmill (now that's a whole 'nother story) and fortunately, one of the veterinary residents was TWH person, Dr Megan Mullis Green, from GA. She gave Donnie May a call; Donnie and Janet brought a bridle/caveson for BEE to wear while treadmill testing....Knowing that I was there alone, they called me the next day and took me along for the ride up to look at horses at Kemp Martins' barn where I enjoyed a barn dinner with them. Genuinely nice folks....along with a feller named Smitty who recommended a camera and gave directions to the local Walmart there in KY...LOL Them KY folks are mighty kind. Oh, and my current trainer's wife, Amy, is a Kentuckian. Not only is she a great jockey, she might be the best "groundman" ever.

| Sammy is one of the coolest dudes I've ever met. Although he has had many ups and downs,I've seen him be at his lowest with not even a barn and a month later have a barn full of horses. He is in my opinion one of the GREATEST trainers to ever throw a leg across ones back. | |

| Yeah, she was pretty good-sized. She was a very stylish-going mare. Could use her legs and wear the bridle. Joyce Datson won a lot of Ladies classes with her up here. | |

| I've been through Dog Walk many times. Sometimes on the way to Lexington via Lancaster and sometimes on the way to Brodhead to the Little World's Fair & Horse Show. Seems like there used to be a feed mill up that way that I used to haul corn for grinding many years ago.
Ain't much in Dog Walk !!! Why do you ask?

| I may be going to a show this weekend in Brodhead and I was looking on the map and saw Dog Walk. Never heard of town named that anywhere else. | |

| I haven't been to the Little World's Fair & Horse Show in a very long time, but I have some very fond and very old memories from there.
It is one of the oldest fairs & horse shows in the state, having originated over 130 years ago. While Brodhead is a tiny place (pop. about 800) the fair was once one of the largest in the state. It was really unique, at least at one time. I recall the fairgrounds was mostly wooded, which made for a very different experience walking through the maze of carnival rides, horse and cattle trucks and people; all under a canopy of trees. As a small kid, I remember being surprised at how large it was. It was probably the most country and old-fashioned type fair I've ever seen. I'm sure it has changed quite a bit since then.
I won the Amateur class there back in the early eighties. I distinctly recall the sound of the pleasant applause from the crowd.........much different than what you hear these days. I vividly recall seeing some of the old farmers in overalls I knew as a child standing on the rail and calling my name as I rode by. I remember having to ride around some of the old roots that were growing right out into the ring from some of the old trees that lined the rail. A horse show in the woods is how I remember it.
My Dad's folks all came from a holler just Northeast of Brodhead in Rockcastle County. That fair & horse show has been in my family for many, many years.
