Those are some pretty cool videos Smitty. Thanks for posting them. I love seeing the past winners. Old photos and videos are interesting to look at.

You know, it's interesting but as you grow older MEMORIES are never exactly like you remember them. These videos kind of prove that to me. I think perhaps maybe our minds tend to change small details around to suit our small fancies. I also think we CHANGE as we age and that changes our perspective drastically sometimes. Maybe TIME itself has a certain warping factor to it. I was there during several of those moments on video and I remember them much differently than I am seeing them on the video.

Smitty, I agree!! I don't remember horses of the 60's and 70's going that fast "racky" lick. Lord knows, they were sitting on their tails a lot of the time!!!

| Well, all that old video is not very good quality and not timed up like it should be. It has no doubt been converted from old 8mm film. I'm sure the horses look faster than they actually were. The exception may be Go Boy's Shadow. I still thought Secret Threat looked pretty darn good. I was also impressed with Rebel & Mr. Bud. I never got to see them. I thought I remembered Ebony's True Grit doing more than he was in the video. I was a little "shocked" that Shaker's Shocker wasn't doing more, and also Ebony Masterpiece. It just goes to show you how much horses have improved little by little over the years and also how our perceptions can play tricks on us over time.

You know smitty, I have to agree with you. Things don't look like I remember them either. However, I think most of it comes from the extremely low quality of the video.

I once thought Bum had the first big front end, from the film I think True Grit did. Shocker was doing more in the film, than I remember him doing in 67. (yr aft he won) Melody Maid wasn't fit for dawg bait! You could have put a humane tail on most any trail horse nowadays & beat her!

I really enjoyed the videos. I think the lick the older champions were doing is about right. (speed is probably off, but most were a little racky when they went on) If you notice the big change was between Another Masterpiece and True Grit. Why?? True Grit was the first champion to be shown in chains. I remember back when we showed in boots and most of the horses I worked did 3 times as much at home working them in chains than when we showed them with the boots. I never could get a horse to do much in a boot.

Smitty I enjoyed the Old Video's, but the horses as i remembered looked a lot better than came across on the clips, The horses back then didn't do as much up front as they do today, But the good one's could Set on that Butt and shake all over, again thats what got us in trouble to start with. Trouble with the show horses today is they are not Timed up enough and i know with what the trainers has to go thru its Tuff to get done. Judging has got to be hard to do today,Not all but most will make a pass in front of the judge thats awesome, then next pass will be skipping, so i guess they have to tie one with the Less mistakes

Boy that was a fun way to start the day - one of the techs heard the music - came up - looked at the monitor and said - "Is that Michael Jackson riding a walking horse?"

Yeah! That music kinda works don't it??? I think I might have "grooved" to that a time or two. I'm not really a Jackson fan, but I thought "Off The Wall" was his best, not Thriller. Also, I think that Ritz was a nice horse...............(but I'd still take Secret Threat over him any day) Am I crazy???

Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't like Tin Man for a stake horse. He was a great show pleasure horse and that's where he should stay. To me, he looks border line bad image when he comes in the ring, he uses his front legs funky and doesn't improve as the class progresses. I just don't care for him. For me, unless things looked much different from center ring, I would have tied Callaway's horse 1st and Knox 2nd. I would have put Tin Man way down.

I agree with curbchain on Tin Man I thougt I was the only one didn't like the way he uses his front legs. That don't have enough been in the knee to suit me. They look like they shoot straight out from his shoulder.

I love the Tin Man, but that's just me. I love the way he carries his head and I love his thick neck. He just stands out to me. Weekend Warrior was good last night, but I'm not sure he was the best. I also think King of the Jungle should have gotten tied higher. Chad Williams and Another RPM was better than last place as well. It was an excellent show last night though. Great stakes class with a lot of good horses in it. Looking forward to next show season!

I might have liked some of the other horses, if the cameraman hadn't spent all his time on the top 3 finishers. I like everything about Tinman, except how he steps up with his back feet, instead of sliding them forward.

I don't know who I would have tied 1st. For me Tin man don't come up enough for me.At times I thought both of the top 2 got 3 legged. At least Tin Man stayed level,he just don't come up,never did.

Actually, I was so busy that I saw very little of the class, but, I did notice that Tin Man did show a difference between his flat walk and running walk more than usual in this class. His canter wasn't very good though. I can't say who did or did not win the class. I still love little King of the Jungle though.
