At Belfast last night, Santana's El Nino and Link Webb won the championship. Joe Martin won the 3 year old stallion class on Gus King's Jazzman horse. Carolyn Rutner won the Show Pleasure on her Armed & Lethal horse. The gov't was there so the classes were about half capacity. One or two classes had no entries. The leadline class was the best dressed and matched up that I've ever seen. Bill Young gave them all a blue ribbon. I'd give Young an A- on his judging last night. I'm planning on being at Wartrace tonight. Anyone else going?

Everett, I knew you would tell it like it is. I thought The Who won that class. Link's horse is showy and sits up, but just doesn't do much else, at least for me. I think The Who has been shown in Amateur classes some as well. Sadlbum, Maybe Wartrace will be better, but I look for the G to be there as well. I'm gonna run up the road to Shelbyville, Ky and take in the Saddlebred show tonight. Might try to track Mason down.

I just got home from 8 nights and days of the International Colt and Pleasure Horse Show. I will tell you there are some GREAT pleasure horses that showed there. I'd like to own a few of them. Chris Bobo did an awesome job of judging. I'm sure most of you have heard there were a couple of glitches, but I am proud to say that Tommy Hall and the WHOA Board seem to have done exactly the right thing under the sad circumstances. On a happier note, Laurie Toone took an awful fall in the warm-up ring the other night. Things looked pretty bleak for a bit, but she walked out of the hospital that night about midnight and was riding horses again the next day. We were worried about her riding so soon with a possible concussion, but she is one TOUGH girl!!!!!! She even won a class last night. Her dad, Doug, 80 years young, rode like the pro that he is. A lot of these young trainers could take some horsemanship lessons from him. Some of you know Liz Hestle Gassaway. She has an awesome horse called Playin' Hooky. There were too many good ones for me to get into the naming thing because I would surely leave someone out inadvertantly. Just suffice it to say there are a lot of kids coming up through these ranks that can ride and really seem to enjoy it. I did some work in the entry office as well and we had them sign that it would be okay to pull shoes for inspection if they won a championship or if there seemed to be a need. Let me tell you that not one person that I asked even hesitated to sign the form. That says a lot for where the Tennessee Walking Horse is today.

Graymare, Thanks for the update. The pleasure horse may be the best thing the breed has going in these times. As for the "glitches", we won't discuss them on this board, but we all wish the best for all parties involved. You're a real trooper for working these shows. Will you be working the Fall show?

I didn't mean to imply that Chris was the only good judge we had. I just knew that many of you here knew him. I guess some of you know Tommy Howell too. He was a hoot!! Jennifer Bingham-Davis was an extremely competent judge, very much a lady, and was very nice to work with. Larry Martin (Charlie's son) came in and did an excellent job as well. His mother, Mrs. Angie, was in the stands and he took me to say hello to her. I used to occasionally feed at their barn some years ago. She looks exactly like she did then!!! And is as sharp as can be. At 89, he said she was beginning to have some trouble with her knees. We should all look and feel so well!!!!!!!!!! I told her if she could bottle her secret, I would be the first in line to buy it. Chris and Katie Beth's son, Elijah, came to center ring after the show. He certainly has his grandpa's (Mr. Bill) "look" about him and Chris says he loves the horses. My sons and Katy Beth went to school together. They are just a great family. I am working entries at another show for PWHAT today and school starts tomorrow! Where DID the summer go??????

Elijah and his "Poppy" were a hoot today after Church. I'm afraid he has his Grandfather's wit as well.
