| Everyone has been commenting on the lack of spectators at our shows. I went to a NWHA show today for the first time. A friend of mine was showing and I have got to tell you. There is more excitement at a funeral. There was maybe 20 spectators including me and my husband. No one was cheering, occasionally some polite clapping. There was no difference between the trail pleasure and the lite shod classes that I could see. Some horses were walking, most were step pacing or hard pacing. I was a little disappointed because I had been told that these shows were so much better than SHOW shows. Our group got to rooting for this guy in a trail pleasure class. We didn't know him, but he had a REALLY nice horse. We were bad. We hooted and hollered for him. He placed dead last in the class! It was bizarre. We found him afterwards and told him we really liked his horse. He thanked us for cheering for him and said he wasn't in the "in" crowd so he was used to not placing well. He said his enjoyment was between him and his horse. Great attitude!

Oh i forgot the best part! There was two shows, two judges, all going on at the same time in the same ring. How bizarre is that?! They would work the class, the one judges ties would be called out, then the other judges ties were called. So if you are riding for points you can, in theory, get points for two different shows and only show one time.

twb, double juged shows have been going on for years with AQHA. They even have some shows with as many as 5 judges so you could get points for 5 shows. NWHA has some very large shows, there was a two day show in Ohio last weekend with between 600-700 entries.

I never knew that! Yes, some of the exhibitors had been to Ohio. This show was in Williamston, NC which is not near much of anything! There was only about 50 horses there.

I have never been to Williamston but from what I hear it's usually hot and humid there. For the most part I think that show is mostly AOT folks, not too many trainers go, just too far for most of us. That show used to be in Raleigh and was much larger then.

The weather was actually nice. A little warm but not humid. The facility is really nice, but why they built it out there I'll never understand. My friend says they do alot of all breed shows there.

Looks like the double show/judging would keep the judging honest, unless they conferr before hand.

Speaking of judging, one of our very own, Frankie Jo Bradley (Cadillac) has been voted one of the judges for the Pleasure International at the end of this month. The other judges are Chris Messick, and Wayne Kirkpatrick. Congratulations, Frankie!!!

| I went to the show at Fayetteville last night. While there, I spoke to Stan Butt, Steve Smith, Mr & Mrs Melvin Wallace, Charles Gleghorn, Cash McCall, Tommy Williams, & others. I enjoy visiting, more than watching the horses. Not many horses or spectators were there, even though the USDA was absent. I asked a trainer why the lack of participation. He said it wasn't a riders cup show. Some one else said they wouldn't come when it was a riders cup. There was a hard rain right before showtime last year & The USDA was there for a couple of years. It ain't fair to the 4H ers. Heres what I have learned about trainers. They won't go to a show if, The USDA is there, if the wrong judge is there, if its not a riders cup show & if another top horse will be in their class ETC ETC ETC.

I just thought maybe everyone was worn out from the July 4th shows. Today we took the girls to the Great American Mule and Donkey Show in Shelbyville. The girls had a great time!! On the way to take them to their Mother's, I took them to greet the new babies at MTSU. There is a REALLY nice Seve colt in the lot. I have been impressed with the colts that Seve is producing. Perhaps I can send a picture I took of the babies and the girls to Smitty and see if he can post it for me.

Ted went to Asheville on Friday night - said that it was terrible - only a couple of trainers showing. He watched inspections and said that every horse that he saw inspected was literally "dancing".

S69 and those that know Mrs. Martha Pennington Shaneyfelt. I'm sorry to report her condition is now very serious. She developed pneumonia over the weekend, and now has VRE. I'm sure she and the family would appreciate your prayers.

OHM, I looked at the same place you sat last year in Lynchburg & didn't see you. The # of spectators were off about 40% & there weren't many horses in each class. Only 4 were in the 3 yr old riders cup & they weren't awesome. Tim Grey won the 2 yr old with a good black one named Bingo Time. Reminded me of Major League on last weeks video. We passed by the Normandy parking lot Sunday & there was a huge number of rigs, I wondered if you were there? Did you see my question about the legallity or edicate of showing a noticable one eyed horse? Everett, I saw Bud Seaton at Lynchburg & told him that You said Hi. He acted like, he wouldn't mind seeing you. I invited him on here, but we didn't have a pencil.
