The Bobo/Perot team was hard to beat. I saw Dub Ivans at The National show s couple weeks ago. He's still showing and doing fine.

Smitty,
I have the $30 booklet, but not the $200 (too much) program. I would like one though.

Good article Sadlbum. In the first picture, I do believe Landrum has his foot on a MG Midget !

Don't think I've ever posted the FULL photo of Allan F-1 & Brantley on here. Probably the most famous TWH photo of all time. For the longest time, I never realized it had a mule in the shot as well. I had only seen the cropped-down versions. Here's the full version:

I've always been intrigued by old barns, and the Brantley barn is one I find most interesting. Does anyone know what style of barn that is? What makes it unusual to me is the gable in the center, the horizontal siding, the wood shake shingles and the diamond-shaped window in the loft. Notice the porch overhang in the front on either side. I've seen a lot of barns, but never one quite like it. It almost resembles an old CHURCH......

Smitty,

I don't think that's a mule.

That was a Black Jack with white points, breed it to a mare & You got yoreself a mule.
And Smitty, I agree, that barn resembled a Church, & come to think, it looked like an old Church building on Union Ridge, in the same (Coffee) County. The barn was replaced about the same time the Cel started (1939). IF YOU REMEMBER THE STORY WHEN F1 WAS BROUGHT FROM KENTUCKY, THEY WENT UP THERE FOR A JACK, THE ONE IN THE PICTURE COULD HAVE BEN HIM.

Even looks like it had a steeple. Or probably a cupola, which would keep it cooler in the summertime.

Found this old photo of Pride of Merry Gold on the Flickr website. Interesting story to go along with it.

"I didn't take this photo. I found it. It was on an exposed roll of black and white film I found in an Argus A-Four camera that I bought for my nephew on eBay. The film was obviously pretty old -- 20-exposure Plus-X. I took in the roll for processing, and there were four usable images -- this being the best one. I did a search online for "Pride of Merry Gold," and discovered it was a champion walking horse in the mid-1970s. It won at least one event in Tennessee. The horse, I learned online, was owned by the president of Morehead State University, Dr. Adron Doran."

Neat picture. Makes you wonder whose camera it is?

Back to the mule, at the pony/kids beginner lesson barn where I volunteer, they have what the farrier called a cart mule. She's small, a little bigger than the Welsh cob we use for the bigger kids. The farrier said that she had been an Amish cart mule, a smaller mule for smaller pulling jobs.

Excellent photo Bradley. Thanks for sharing it with us. I like the bridle & reins left on. Different. That photo kind of harkens back to the old days of great stud shots.

Great shot, Bradley! You've got a good eye for a horse. I think that's the secret to your outstanding camera work.

In reference to Mr. Lo McDaniel mentioned above, can anyone name his famous son-in-law? [Hint...think St. Louis Cardinals]
