I'm a few days behind here and welcome to Brenda. Ramsey asked if you were living around Martinsville?

"Double M"............just hit the "post reply" button at the bottom and start typing.
Don't worry.......we're a much more relaxed group than some of the other WH chat boards.

I am still learning to navigate the site, so a bit slow....Thanks for the welcome and I have sent information about this site to a few of my long-time TWH friends....I have enjoyed looking through the old pics, recognize some through the years, either from years of studying old "Blue Ribbon" magazines or from my 40+ years in TWH's.

Will think on funny horse stories...I have some but will have to think of the implications of sharing them. HA!

Gray mare,
You are right about addictive, I have "numb butt syndrome" from sitting here in one position for the last couple of hours just reviewing old pictures. Having slloooowwww dial-up doesn't help the review process. But, have really enjoyed it this evening. Will check in again soon to finish lookin' through the old posts.

MM,

Glad to have some Alabama folk on the forum. As mentioned, Priscilla was with us a for a short while, but didn't stay. We hope you stick around! My grandmother was from Ozark, AL, so I guess you could say I'm one-eighth Alabamian myself! I still have a few relatives in Eufala and Dothan. I pass through the state quite often on my way to St. George Island, FL.

Also, be aware that anyone is allowed to post pictures and memorabilia on the forum......not just me.
If you have some old magazines, etc. and a scanner, you can feel free to add to the site if you wish.

Thanks Smitty!
I grant you honorary Alabamian status by virtue of your Alabama relatives!
I'm afraid that I will not be much of a contributor as I don't have much in the way of valid history only subjective recall. I have found a couple of books that my father purchased years ago and plan on unboxing some Blue Ribbons to review over the winter. But, I have loved reading and hearing from those who are clearly true history buffs.
It is a wonderful site and a great archive of information presented by folks who love the horse.
I am located between Birmingham and Cullman, AL, so if you ever have the need for assistance en route on your journeys south, let me know.

To all you new members, hi y'all. I can say "y'all." I may live in Connecticut now, but I'm from Kentucky.

So, I'm not really some Yankee carpetbagger on here. Smile

My name is Mona Dean and I live in Wendell, NC (east of Raleigh). I got my first pony in the fifth grade and I have not been the same since. I showed saddlebred horses in college and after seeing Candace Williams show a walking
horse at the NC Championship show in Raleigh, I had to have one. I got my first walking horse in the early 70's and started showing on a Saturday afternoon circuit in eastern NC. Over the years I have had horses with Charles
Bobo, David Polk, B. M. Bullis, Ronnie Spears and Knox Blackburn. My family now has two horses with Chad
Baucom, WGC JFK Again and WC I'm Rocky Balboa. They tell me I am too old to ride so I leave the riding and
showing to my Grandaughter Jordan. My favorite horses that I owned and showed were Pride's Glory B, Critic's
Claim to Fame, and Memories Hallelujah. I know trivia participants Connie Bobo, Cindy Sullivan, Melvin Wallace, and
I remember Everett when he was in Bahama, NC. I know Ramsey but do not believe I have met Shelia. Although I
no longer ride, I love horses, shows, and all that goes with it as much as ever. I love Walking Horse Trivia.

Welcome Mona!

I am also a newcomer to Trivia. I certainly remember GloryB as well as Jordan's current mounts. Dr Hill would certainly tell you that you are not too old to ride a TWH. But, I'm sure you just enjoy seeing Jordan ride instead.

Mona,

I know you have been reading this site for quite a while. I'm so happy you finally joined us! If I am not mistaken, you are ONE of the original trivia members from the WHR trivia thread, over two and a half years ago. I think I remember you posting. I'll try to get a picture for your profile up. (I can always change it, if you don't like it) I'm glad you like the site. Don't be shy, just jump in and shake things up. We want to hear your stories and see the years through your eyes as well. Everyone has something unique to offer, whether they realize it or not.

Mona, welcome!! I enjoy your nice horses and watching Jordan ride at the Celebration. I have worked center ring at the Internationals for the past several years. I grew up in Shelbyville and had a brood mare and raised some colts. I have great friends in the business, but no horse myself any more. I do believe once the horse fever hits you, you are never the same and can never quite get rid of it. I look forward to hearing your stories.

Mona,

I once heard a story about you and David Polk. The story went that like so many of us, you had a little trouble getting up on Glory B. So David got you a step stool. And he painted on each step
Mona's
Steps to
Glory

Is that any where close to a true story?

I'm from Virginia and we have shown at a bunch of the same shows over the years.

Susie

I had the stool but David didn't get it. My husband got the stool. David may have told him that he was tired
of pushing me up on the horse. We were with David for a long time and he like to give me a hard time and
still does. He use to tell people that Mona can ride a lot better than most folks think she can. David was and still
is a good trainer as he proved with his three year old at the Celebration this year.

I remember you Susie from the Virginia Shows. It has been a long time and I think you were a little girl
at the time. Your family always had good horses.

Thank you for the compliment. We are still showing around here, but don't wander as far away since Dad passed on.

I had a Blue Roan horse named Ebony's Blue Sun that I rode from juvenile into amateur classes. I was taking some graduate classes at Bowman Gray and I took the horse with me. We kept him at David's for several months. I had a blast. Melanie was working for him back then. He was still over at the Coleman's. I got to go with him in the cart when he worked Mighty Man's Rascal. That was one nice horse.

Welcome Mona - so glad to have you on the site. I think that the two of us must have shown at some of the same shows in the Carolina's - however we never managed to meet. Nice to have input here from another Carolinian!
