There are many folks who may know Carolyn better than I, but she was a genuinely nice person, who LOVED horses. She had a strong faith, loved to laugh and SHOP. Seems like I first remember her showing out of Billy Gray's barn, but Margaret Manes may remember her earlier days since she's a MO native. I personally met Carolyn (and Bud, at the time) as owner of Twin Willow Farm in Shelbyville. Seems like I remember that her dad may have owned/possibly trained Missouri Fox Trotters and you could tell Carolyn grew up on a horse!!! Carolyn had some great horses...I think Black Jack Cash (or a similar name), Pride's Winning Edge, and most recently/still showing is the Main Majorette mare.

I'm pretty sure Carolyn raised Main Majorette and she was at Twin Willow as a 2-3 year old while I had a horse there, she is now owned by the Kilburns and trained by Jeff Willis. Not sure if Carolyn sold the Twin Willow property or not, it's one of my favorite barns.

Carolyn battled melanoma for ~ 12 years according to what I read and that fits with my recollection based on having a horse at their barn in Shelbyville years ago. Though not often visible in the horse industry for the last couple of years, she maintained many close friendships in the TWH industry.

Roosevelt Williams

WHT Memorials - Page 30 2011obitwilliams

Roosevelt "Rosie" Williams, 78, of McComb, Miss., passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Anyone who ever knew Rosie, knew he was an honest, hard-working man. He was a member of Bouge Chitto Baptist Church. Williams enjoyed coon hunting and also raised champion coon dogs. He was very much a family man that adored spending time with his family and friends, be it a horse show or Sunday dinner.

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, La., Williams began training Tennessee Walking horses in 1957 for Richard Mary, Sr., before striking out on his own to open Sleepy Hollow Stables. Through the years, Williams coached many amateurs, most of who are still riding today.

Williams showed Copy's Sensation and Black Silver on the Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas circuits, but it was As Beautiful Does who was the apple of his eye. Williams became the first black man to win the Pin Oak Horse Show Grand Championship in Houston, Texas aboard the talented mare.

Williams is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Hall Williams of McComb, Miss. Sons: Jerry Williams, Shelbyville, Tenn.; Buck Williams, Athens, Tenn; Frankie Williams, McComb, Miss; Robert and Greg Williams, both of Baton Rouge, La.; Charles Hall, Summit, Miss.; Roosevelt Williams, Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.; and two daughters: Lucille Arthur of Arizona and Rose Williams of McComb, Miss. along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many, many friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 10:00-11:00AM with the funeral service immediately following at Young’s Funeral Home in Summit, Miss.

Please keep my long time dear friend Brenda Upton in your dailey prayers as she battles another round of Cancer. She's taking Chemo once a week and radiation five days a week and is not quite half way through with her treatment.
