| I think Ironworks was sired by Ebony Masterpiece and Dick Myers trained him at one time. I remember being at a show in Asheville, N C and Ironworks won the juvenile plantation class. A few minutes later a protest was filed and the ribbon had to be returned because he was a stallion. Both Bubbadog and my mother know something about showing stallions in juvenile and ladies classes | |

| Both Bubbadog and your mother know that you will be protested if your horse has testicles. Betty Freeman bred Ironworks I believe. | |

| David Landrum was Ironworks first trainer. Ironworks was the first Plantation TWH to be retired at the Celebration. | |

| I remember being at Betty's one day doing an interveiw with her, three or four yearling were hanging their heads over the fence...She made the comment she had really high hopes for the gray one...it was Ironworks. I took a picture, wish I had it now. | |

| Ebony's Evening Sun and the late Marilyn Hornbein cantered over the entry gate and I believe were Reserve WC 15.2 Amateur champions out of Edwards barn.

| Correct! The horses were not stripped for conformation judging. Definitely a first, and maybe a last! Here's a couple more questions to test your memory on the unforgettable 1969 WGC class: 1. From what direction did the storm come? 2. During what class did the downpour begin? 3. Why was Ace's Sensation late in coming into the ring? | |

| RW,
There was a TREMENDOUS storm that hit the grounds just before the WGC in 1969. The conditions were so terrible, that they decided not to strip em down. Lightning, heavy downpours, two inches of water standing in the ring. Although before my time in the biz.........I've heard many stories about this night down through the years. You'll find out more about this memorable night before the week is out.

| My sister-in-law was up from Georgia for her first Championship. We handled the rain, but when the lightning started popping off the aluminum seats and those lights went out, we had to go!! Remember, too, that was before the days of quarterdown track. It was MUD!!! | |

Answers: 1. Northeast (storms in Shelbyville usually come from the Southwest) 2. Amateur Championship is correct (there was a 5-gaited class between this and the WGC) 3. Wink Groover had to go back to the barn to get Ace!
