| There hasn't been many that knew breeding like Gribble did...he was the best there was at it. A good friend that I miss alot. He'd come by, pick me up and I'd drive him around for hours listening to his tall tales...wish I could remember some of them. He had a mind like a steel trap when it came to the walking horse. | |

| Not the one I'm thinking of, but you are correct. I don't remember exactly when, but I do recall hearing of Sherri showing some ASB's, possibly in the mid to later 80's (?) I don't recall seeing her show. Like Joe Dietz, this gentleman also bought a Saddlebred for his daughter to show.... | |

| Sen61...I totally agree with you about Larry Gribble...the man knew his bloodlines and not only on paper; his breedings produced many top notch horses. I also loved spending time with him...I felt as if I learned something new and important about the breed everytime I was around him. He was the breeder of my mare; Johnny's Rebel Maid. She was part of Larry's "selective breeding program"...he already had big plans for her the moment her dam conceived. She was a product of two of his horses with high concentrations of Wilson Allen blood..by his stallion; Johnny Midnight and out of Sun's Rebel Maid; a mare that had already produced two champions...Larry felt this cross was going to be extra special...and in his and my eye's (and a whole bunch of other's too) she was!! In the Voice March 1972 article I read; many of the experts were predicting that she would be the next mare to win the Big Stake...even went as far as to say she was the greatest female prospect of all time!! I knew how much Larry and I loved this mare and how great we thought she was; but I didn't remember so many others did too!! Of course we bought her and took her in the Amateur ring; but I do remember that Larry Gribble wanted us to think about letting Larry Webb campaign her for the "Big One" at some point in the future. Sadly this was not to be because she died the year following our Ladies Amateur Championship..such a tragic loss that she died so young. Loved reading this excellent Voice article about her and Larry G...I can't express how good it made me feel!!...and it brought back so many Wonderful memories too!! A Great Big Thank You to Rooster for sending it to me!!! | |

| Answer: The Jenifer Saddle
Many Confederate cavalrymen enlisted with their own horses and civilian saddles. In time the Confederacy issued the Jennifer saddle. This was a bare-bones saddle used mostly by Confederate Calvary. Simple and skeletal in nature, it often did not even have skirts When Southerners’ horses grew thin because of the inadequate food supply, the Jennifer saddle became painful to the bony withers of the horses. In 1863 the Confederate army issued the lighter and better-contoured McClellan saddle to its cavalry. | |
