Allan Quinn was shooting pics in the early 80's....face is familiar, but not sure. Looks a bit like Nancy Groover, but don't think the age is right.

That's Nancy...don't remember the horses name.

She was Nancy Hicks then and I know the horse but my brain doesn't remember its name.

Nancy Hicks is correct. She's riding ANOTHER SPORTY LADY.

Both The High Chaparral and Cool Hand Luke were by Old Sun Dust.

Was Cool Hand Luke also "hot"? My old Sundust gelding sure was. Had a REAL short fuse but his motor never ran out of fuel! The last time that I ever showed him was at Montgomery. I'm sure that some of you remember just how hard that ring was. He made a real crummy show that night and I had a sour look on my face (against the rules) when I came out of the ring. Huck looked at me, told me to wipe the look off of my face, get off and give my old horse a hug cause he had just toted me around that ring with 2 nice sized quarter cracks. He never let on - tough old thing that he was.
After that, he went into retirement with his own private turnout (took him forever to figure out what going outside was all about) at MIB's.

I talked to Neal's father at the blacksmiths shop one day at the celebration and he said Luke was a little hot headed when he was young. He liked Cool Hand Luke very much and said he was a horse that you could depend on, show after show. Neal also had Chaparral, but Neals father liked Luke better. Chaparral had the worst hooves I ever seen on a show horse at that time. Chaparral did have a very short "fuse".

I thought so - had always heard that the old Sundust horses were for the most part on the temperamental side.

What was your Gelding's Name?

Sensational Sundust - bought him from Wink Groover - Wink was reserve on him in the aged gelding class in the early sixties. Before Wink got him, he was registered as Sundust Sputnik. I showed him in amateur classes in SC and Ga and TN for years.

Yes, I remember seeing you show him. I really like his registered name!!!!!!!!!

That's Bill Cantrell, but I can't remember the horse. Maybe after another cup of coffee and a second glance it will come to me.
