| Rooster, did you all own him when maybe Steve Hill used him for the flag horse at the Celebration in the early 70's? '72 or '75? I remember seeing him andhe still had a good lick for his age. | |

| Yes Dutch we did. But I was thinking it was around 67 or 68 when we brought him to the celebration, and I think John Young rode him that night. I saw an old celebration tape a few months ago and it had a short clip of him carrying the flag. We took him to several shows during the mid 60's and carried the flag, I can remember well how that old horse would COME ALIVE when he heard the crowd and saw the lights. You are right about his lick he had an amazing back end for a horse of any age. He was a warrior for sure!! I don't know for sure, but the story I heard was they had to cut him to be able ride him. and I believe it, Like I said earlier when you got on him it was hold on were going for a Ride and he was in his middle 20's. When we had to quit the horse business in 74 my dad gave him back to Steve Hill, I asume he is buried on Steve's farm in Beech Grove, but I'm not postive. I was ask that by some one the other day, does anyone know for sure if he is buried on Steve's farm???

| Rooster, we had a research project last year trying to locate the graves of the deceased WGC's. According to the final list that I saw, Ol' Talk is buried at Sand Creek Farm in Shelbyville. As the other members can tell you, I've been wrong before, so maybe they'll follow this up. I enjoy your post and pictures. Hope to start my grand kids on some trail rides this next year. | |

| I believe it was 1975 that Steve Hill carried the flag on Talk of the Town. I remember it well, as it was my very first Celebration. Steve rode him on in the ring without any prior introduction from the announcer. Everyone, including myself was wondering who this old fella was riding this obviously very old horse. It was rather curious at first, but as the announcer introduced this 3-time World Grand Champion and told his AMAZING story..........it got better and better and better.
In my mind, this was one of the more memorable and satisfying moments in Celebration history. | |

| Smitty, we were out of the business by that time, but this makes sense!! My dad gave TOTT back to him when we quit, so OLD talk had two encores at the celebration, my memory is shot, but I know John Young rode him in 66 or 67. He may have just put on an exhibition and not carried the flag! BD and Deedy and RAzor do you remember John Young riding Talk in the mid 60's. I know I'm getting old but this I remember.

| Correct! That image is off a Florida Queen Cigar Box which was made by J.T. Budd, who owned Old Glory's Big Man. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was within a mile or so of his old farm in Quincy, Florida a couple of years ago, when I took an exit off the interstate at Quincy to head south to St. George Island. This one's a little tougher....What well-known STABLE would you associate with this? | |
