| Yalve dun good, 16. Susie DeButzcoy owned What a Sunrise. Carlton Pitts of Donald Paschal stables won 3 yr old WGC with Go Boys Black Rooster in 68 when Don won WGC with GB's Royal Heir. Later Sam showed him. Donald showed full bro Black Jack for Capn Self. Trainers boycotted in 72 & could have done it later too. | |

| Didn't they call it off on the first Friday night in 2006 right after one of the youth classes? It was the same year that there was no Champion. That is why everyone thought the trainers had just had enough and were not showing in the Championship on purpose. I was one of those yelling at the top of my lungs UNTIL I saw the look on Bill Bobo's face in the Calsonic (with our box you can view both ways) and knew right then that he had had no part in calling that class off.
I remember that Friday night because I had a friend showing a very good yearling on Saturday and because of all the meetings, they had to re-schedule the classes and she wound up showing on Sunday afternoon.

| The night that they shut it down in '72 ended with two trainers hanging a For Sale sign on the Celebration entry gate. Can anyone name them? | |

| Seems like Wink was in on that one, If my memory is correct, the Trainers had talked all day about Boycotting the show all day,and at showtime we as a group had not been told, they called for the 2yr. Gelding class and I rode my colt up and Jim Messenger was standing at the Gate and said we are NOT Showing, Course knowing Jim the way i knew him , I turned around and put my horse back in the Stall and poured myself another Drink and enjoyed the Evening( I had been saying for years we should have done it Early) Celebration wanted to talk then. | |

| E,
Wink was one of the two. Spears was the other. I believe there was a picture of this in the "Voice".

| This is the earliest photo I've seen of Joe Webb. I looked thru 29 magazines & some twice & didn't notice it. In the process, I found the Bob Waggoner relocating ad (Big Eds Grandad). This morning I decided to put the mags backup & thumbed thru one & found this. Mebbe Deltaboy can shed some light on this farm. BigEd hope you liked the ad. In case the date at bottom is illedgible, it is a 1949 Jimmy Joe Murray, TWH magazine. | |

| I remember talking with the Mickels a time or two in the 70's, but I didn't know their connection with Joe. I believe Joe was working for Dr. Rodgers when the above photo was taken. Ads from that time did not always emphasize where the horse was trained. I believe Joe started working for Dr. Rodgers as a college freshman in 1946. He started by halter-breaking 10 wild yearlings including Merry Man's Souvenir & Old Glory's Big Man. He worked for Dr. Rodgers until he went to work for Carl Edwards in 1950 or '51. He returned to Searcy in 1954. | |

| A name that I have not heard mentioned here is Sweet Georgia Brown, I saw a tribute on the big screen at the Celebration that was really nicely done. | |

| Sadlbum, Bob Waggoner was born and raised in Lynchburg, Tn. Married Eura Morris from Flat Creek. Lived and trained in Tenn. until about 1949. Helped build Steve Hills barn, trained there a number of years. Also Trained at Oakwood Acres, and operated a barn in Shelbyville before leaving Tenn. to go to Va, Ark., Md., Pa. and finally in N.C.(Creedmore, JD Browning and Harold Deal) for his last 10 years of training. Think he retired about 1970. Last good horses he had were Mary Poppins, Ebony's Reward and The King. Eddie | |
