| Do any of y'all know if the Big Chicken is still around? I haven't been that far down I65 in years, but that was always a landmark that made me crack up! | |

| I THINK that it was moved a few years ago in order to build another ROAD in Marietta. I never rode the chicken. | |

| That's a big chicken for sure, but it's not the one I'm talking about. Off of I65, south of Pulaski at the Frankewing exit (If memory serves me correct) there is a truck stop and out front is an enormous white rooster that looks like Foghorn Leghorn. I seem to remember he was wearing a cowboy hat too and maybe some boots. When I worked for Duck Milligan we showed a lot in Alabama and Ralph Hensley and Coy Claxton hauled a lot for him. Both of them always seemed to stop at that truck stop in the wee hours of the morning, and when you saw that rooster, you knew that home wasn't too far away. | |

| Curb, tell be about "Duck" Milligan...presumably Don? I could see him called Bird or Quail, but does the nickname "Duck" come from the same hunting theme? | |

| MM, Duck, aka Don, is as fine a man as you could hope to be around and honest to a fault. In the years I worked for him he was as much a father figure to me as my own dad. He was a very good horseman although he never quite had the stock or the customers to fully showcase his talent. That said, he sometimes could turn a silk purse out of a sow's ear. In the end I learned a lot from him about horses and life. I wouldn't trade my time working under him for anything. Also, it is quite possible that Ms. Elaine makes the best biscuits in Bedford County. One last thing, he is the best wingshooter I've ever seen. He carries a 20 gauge Franchi and I don't ever recall him missing a bird. | |

| Curb, you are so right about the intergrity and talent of Don...I had just not heard him called "Duck". I had the pleasure of riding out of his barn one season. Likely would have been back in his barn with my next horse had he not retired from the horse biz and gone to the dogs (so to speak). I was lucky enough to have a few of Elaine's biscuits/stuffed with Don's quail on the front porch several Sat mornings!
I still remember his pet peeve every time I reverse a horse...always turn towards the rail!

| MM, were you at Don's barn on the Unionville Hwy? If so, the house they lived in is the house where I grew up. I stopped by there the other day when I was in the area and looked around. It is for sale again. Looks so different from the way I remember it. It might be true that you can never go back again to the way things were. | |
