| I forgot to give credit for that one. It came from Priscilla Talley, who posted it on the WHT Facebook page. Thanks PT !!! I think I was up in the West Grandstands that night and remember that pass coming out of the North turn. | |

| The year was 1981 when Pusher won and Professor was reserve. A good shot of two good horses. | |

| Professor was worthy of being a WGC; as was The Pusher. I went back to Bob's barn after this class and there was a huge crowd back there. Not everyday that a Ky horse wins the big one, you know.... There was a big line of folks congratulating him on his win. I waited for at least an hour to talk to him. I think maybe I was the last one he talked to that night. I just told him I was proud of him and shook his hand. I recall sleeping real good that night. A good memory! | |

| S61 also sent in the following text, which I believe accompanies the photo spread above:
Talk of the Town Did It Again Setting World Record at Celebration by Mrs. Ed-ward Ezell. Jr.
When the dust cleared at the '53 Celebration, Steve Hill and Talk of own had done it again, making it three times in a row, a new record elf. There were those who said that it couldn't be done, but the mas-lowman had complete control of the situation and the champion bay ig didn't even take a deep breath. In itself proof that Steve had him for anything. He bowed out in a blaze of glory for owners L. A, lell and E. P. Riley. Shown against the best in the nation, he's >d his way right down the road toward the record Steve had set to -the championship three times in a row. It will be a long time and i good horse to equal his feats. fhirteen horses went through the gate for the stake, each one fully le of winning a stake. Joe Urquhart had Midnight Mac K. in gear ie made an A-No. 1 show for reserve. Donald Pascal and Sun's Go ^ere fighting every inch of the way. This horse is a youngster, four old and the night before had been ridden hard to win the stallion Donald gave him a faultless ride and there's another year coming. Green gave the mare class winner Co Boy's Rocket a good ride for and they were followed by Winston Wiser and Go Boy's Ace. he Amateur Stake went to A. W. Gay, Atlanta, Ga., for a grand n Sun's Night Cap with reserve to the many times champion Mid- Al Skipper with his owner B. A. Skipper, Jr. up. Third was the ful black mare Midnight Mystery with her new owner Mrs. E. H. tt up. They will make it tough for them all soon. Winston Wiser had an outstanding colt in Mr. Namron to win the ear old stake. Right behind them was the black filly As Beautiful or owner rider Sam Pascal. B. Smith gave his bay colt Sun's Big Shot a ride to end them all he won the Junior Stake. That colt had three real gears and Jim B. m working like a well oiled machine arid he wouldn't be denied. Hill and the Junior mare champ were reserve with third going to the black colt Midnight Secret, shown well by Benton King for Breese .. Ankeny, Iowa. Jill" Cunningham tied the gaited horses and jumpers and did an nt job. The Five-Caited Stake went to Ace's Performance for his rider J. R. Bettersworth, Bowling Green, Ky. David Neil's Blythe- Farms had the winner in the fast roadster Stake with Blythewood to retire the W. D. Richards Challenge Trophy. Mrs. Neil took of the Three-Gaited Stake beautifully on Mrs. C. M. Jones' geld- •cely Highland King.
Ann Lee Bettersworth won the hearts and applause of the audience for her stake horse ride to win the Five-Gaited Pony Stake on Double Trouble. She also accounted for the Three-Gaited Pony Stake on Patience Pride. The Walking Pony Stake was a victory for Johnnie Gee owned by the Happy Hollow and ridden by Betty Barron. Pride of Jackson was reserve and the third pony, the most improved pony out this year, Dixie Darling and her personality-plus owner Betty Bradford. Raymond Hoagland gave his new road horse Smokey Long Key a stake horse drive to win the amateur roadster class. Gentlemen, you'd better hold your hats, there's a new road horse driver among you, now. The 16,000 plus crowd, confronted with only one day of rain, enjoyed the 1953 Celebration—one full of good horses, new friends, and many new champions.

| In reference to the earlier picture of Sun's Merry Man: I was pretty sure I had read somewhere that Calvin Miller bred Sun's Merry Man out of his prized mare; Lady's High Calico and retained him as his herd sire...he never left North Dakota therefore he could not have been the colt that came to Steve Hill's with Hill's Perfection. Sherrie's new site (Slush Creek Walkers) just keeps improving...page down to "The Calvin Miller Story" which gives more details. I am sending it this way because there are several of these subjects that you may enjoy..very interesting reading. I think she has done a great job on the site...informative with beautiful photos of her horses and their Montana ranch. Note at the bottom of this page that she is working on a "Hill's Perfection" page...she told me it is not quite finished yet. http://www.slushcreekwalkers.com/HorseTales.htm | |

| I agree! Nice job on that Deedy. If that was done in '88, then I'll bet it was done the old-fashioned way and not on a computer. The computer revolution was just getting started about that time. I used to do a bit of "paste-up" myself and it does take some skill and a good eye. | |

| No computer used. Yes, it did take quite a bit of time, effort and cutting and pasteing. Course at the time I knew where every single stable large, Med & small were located and had been to them all. Had to pretty much redraw the entire map to eliminate some of the smaller roads. | |
