| Mason just dropped me a note on the pictures above:
Mason said...
"Midnight Suns caretaker RED LAWS lived in that little house. I THINK Mr. Harlin Hayes lived in the other one..it was to the right of the driveway down a long lane. Never down there but you could see it from the Big barn."

- That pic of Dr Hill (just a wonderful gentleman) and Larry is one of my all time favorites!!! Made me cry the first time I saw it. Precious and so typical of him! They probably have the longest running customer relationship in the industry. Dr Hill was a customer of their Daddy and knew them as young boys. I would say they are more like his sons than trainers. Had the pleasure of making his acquaintance years ago through the Edwards and re-aquainted when Neon Brite was started in training at Philip's barn a few years ago. Neon Brite's only offspring, a 2 year old stallion, (embryo from her frozen ovaries shipped to Colorado State when she was euthanized) is coming along.
Little Joe Vann Clayton in the top left picture?
Could really write some funny captions on the picture of Mr Bud.... Dr. Hill is a wonderful gentleman. I had the honor of watching him ride on his 92nd birthday in Perry, GA last year. I waited in line to shake his hand and wish him a happy birthday. I do so admire him and got to tell him so. I love these pages!

| Star of The Yearling and Nashville native, Claude Jarman Jr. poses with Queen Sue Morrisson and Francis The Talking Mule at the 1950 Columbia Mule Days. Jarman was Grand Marshall of the Mule Day Parade.

| Thanks for catching my mistake, Sowega. Easy to do at 7:30 on a Sunday morning! I will correct it. Incidentally, there is another photo on here somewhere of Jarman sitting on Merry Go Boy with a couple of the Wiser boys standing beside him. Not sure exactly where it is, but probably in the Archive somewhere. | |
