MIB, I was just reading yesterday that Elk had been introduced down there. I was not aware of that fact. I am guessing TN must be stocking them. I haven't heard of KY stocking any there, but I might be wrong. KY does stock Elk up in Eastern Ky though.
Ritz, I'm praying that 2cd bear photo was not taken in the Big South Fork. If it was, then I am definitely modifying my camping plans in the future.....

Hey, here's another photo from OHM's BSF trip last month. This shot was taken by her at Timber Ridge Campground on Halloween.

Some of you folks have heard me speak of Rock Creek; maybe even rather fondly at times. It is a special place for me. A place I like to escape to at least once every year or two. It's right on the Ky/Tn line in the Daniel Boone National Forest and right next to the Big South Fork. It's quite remote and takes a while to get there. Rock Creek is on the backside of nowhere and I like it like that. It is, perhaps, the most scenic creek in the state and the best small trout fishing stream by far. A gravel road runs alongside it for most of it's length and is frequented by horseback riders, since Bell Farm Horse Camp is on it's northern end. You can pitch a tent and camp alongside it in many spots. Fly fishermen sometimes travel from as far as Louisville or Knoxville to fish it's waters, but it's never ever crowded. I've caught many, many rainbow trout from the depths of it's cool, clear pools, either by wading or standing atop one of the boxcar-size boulders. Rhododendrons grow on it's banks and Hemlocks overhang the water in many spots. After the sun goes down over the hill, you can build a fire and be serenaded to sleep by the tree frogs and nightingales in the forest. The following video will give you just a small glimpse into what I attempt to describe:

The Horse That Wouldn't Trot By Rose Miller
Here's a book I recently discovered that I hadn't heard of before. I have not read much of it yet, but it appears to be an account of one woman's experiences with the TWH breed. It also does not appear to be written from an "industry insider's" point of view, so it probably won't appeal to all, but I think some may find it interesting.
You can read much of the book online for free at this link:

Thanks Smitty. That's one of those books I keep meaning to get and never seem to get around to it. She has posted occasionally of another gaited horse list that I belong to promoting her book.

Although I haven't read Rose Miller's book, she used to show horses up in Ohio, Indiana, Pa. area. I think she showed among others a pleasure horse called Praise Hallelujah(sp?), this would have been in the late 80's maybe and the 90's. He was a pretty animal.

Rose Miller lives in Goshen, Indiania. I know her very well and get emails from her on occassion. She stopped by and spoke to me during The Nationals in Murfreesboro last month.

Where'd they find that many ponies to stand still and behave like that?!
Subject: Re: Pleasure, Trail, Versatility, etc. Fri Dec 03, 2010 7:47 pm
Hal says thanks for posting his picture. He really appreciates it. The reason that the ponies are all standing still according to Hal is because they were tired. They had been riding for 8 hours.

Found this link to a Western U.S. Walking Horse Ranch in Las Vegas, Nevada. I thought it was interesting and different for several reasons: terrain, weather, etc. Check out the videos.
