| Sad News, On my way to Shelbyville this morning, While driving thru Bellbuckle, I noticed that the barn that Betty Sain trained Shakers Shocker in, has recently been torn down. Just the house is left on the lot.
I also was told by Joe Martin that Jimmy McConnell picked up Sky Miles yesterday. | |

| SB...I knew about Sky Miles, but not Bettys former barn. Been yrs since I've been thru there. As for the outhouse..Charmin has a product "Charmin To Go". They are mini rolls of tissue in a plastic dispenser. Perfect for saddle bags and long rides. I always carry one and plenty of big trees around here. | |

| I've been looking at that barn for 40 years, it just won't be the same. Me & some HS friends went in there right about this same week of the year in 66, right after She won the WGC. We saw Shocker, Merry Boys Traveler & Black Dust MR (by Merry Boy). I told Billy Gray & Sonny Holt at the MidWay Diner & Sonny said He went with Dan Arnold once to shoe Shocker. Webb School might have bought the place for expansion. I wasn't kidding about the OutHouse, look back to the last trailride picture, there was one at the top of the hill, to the right. | |

| I read in the Shelbyville paper yesterday that, in fact, the Webb School had bought the house and entire farm. They have not decided exactly how it will be used. They do have plans to get the historical people to erect a sign about Shaker's Shocker being trained there. | |

| Question, Were Him, Strolling Jim & Pride of Memphis? Or were any 2 of them brothers, I think so? | |

| No. Strolling Jim was out of a Mabry Allen mare. The G-Man was out of a Ramsey's Frank Allen mare. Pride of Memphis was out of a Davis Allen mare. Of course, they were all sired by Wilson's Allen. I wonder what the WH business would be like if these three had not been gelded! | |

| Note: Some of these captions sound a little screwy to me. There have been PLENTY of women in all the old parade and trail riding shots I've seen, and I'm sure not all of them were merely relatives of trainers. This is not the only questionable photo caption from this same book....... | |

| I don't believe the bay in front was a Walker, but the one behind it was a goodun! I believe the lady in front might have had on one of those 1939 Celebration Ribbons & buttons that we've had on here before! | |

| I have been reading all the stuff on this site for the past few weeks....WOW. I spent 5 hours on here the other night lol. I read earlier in this forum about the farm in Montana where Hill's Perfection was raised. I few years ago a close frind of mine Karl Thompson told me about visiting this farm at some point. He told me something about Hill's Perfection being used on the farm prior to being a show horse. I just found it very interesting that a farm in Montana had such an impact on our breed. Rebel's dam also came from this farm I assume? Can anyone tell me more about this farm? How did these horses get back to Middle TN?

| Hill's Perfection was brought to Steve Hill's to be trained. I don't know about Rebel's dam. | |

| I was told by Johny Brown, that Reycliffe Mid Merry (Hills P) a 5 yr old, was brought along with one of his colts, on a 2 ton, flatbed truck, with wooden stock racks. Buddy Hugh was working at Steve Hills & He started Him & Johny started the colt. His name was never changed because of the colt. | |

| I was thinking ND also, notice I didn't mention a state in my response. I have a Voice advertising Him at stud before He turned 2. Ray Rhodes of California showed his full brother for years on the west coast. | |

| It could have been North Dakota. Rebel's grandsire Reyclif Merry Junior was a half brother to Hill's Perfection. He was out of the same mare Baby Ray by Reyclif Merry Allen. By looking at the owner history on all these horses, the man who raised them was C.R. Clifton. Anyone ever heard of him? |

Not exactly, S & F, but I had noticed a number of horses with "Reyclif" in their name. Perhaps it is a combination of Mr. Clifton's middle & last names. I did think that the "Reyclif" farm was somewhere west of the Mississippi. Bridle-Vale Penny [by Reyclif Merry Jr.], the dam of Dark Spirit's Rebel, was once owned by "Bebe" Holton from Castle Rock, Colorado. She purchased the mare from her breeder, Bridle-Vale Acres. Perhaps she was also a "western mare". CB, do you know anything about this?

| I bet that was some good flare! Today I went nearly to Shebvul. Went to Winky Groovers at His new home, Saddlecrest. His old place was sold to Joe Cottons customer & a new barn is to be built. While at Winky's, I met Pete Yokleys Grandson, who is supervising some additions to Crawfords Saddlecrest stables. He works for the Morton co., that builds barns, garages etc. all over the country. Said he was 3 when Pete died. I also went to Billy & Tim Grays and saw some good colts worked. I ate a good lunch later at Midway Diner, never had a bad meal there. | |
