| Mr. Perot was a very kind man. When he bought HP for Ross Jr he asked me to come to Dallas to give Ross Jr help with the horse. I can't really remember the details on how HP got to Dallas...maybe he was shown at Dallas or Pin Oak (Houston) and they pulled his shoes and took him to their place in Dallas..maybe he just made the trip there straight from Tn??? I flew in from Nashville and Mr Perot picked me up at the Dallas airport. I remember I was expecting to be picked up in a fancy car; maybe even a limousine; I knew it would be something very nice though. Mr Perot met me and we got my luggage (I remember it was dark; so I think it must have been in the fall of the year) we walked out of the airport and up to an old Oldsmobile Delta 88..wasn't a current model either; about 10 yrs older...with it being dark I thought maybe I wasn't seeing right?? He saw the shock on my face and laughed; I blushed; but it was not what I was expecting at all; he went on to tell me that he couldn't see buying a new car when this one ran perfectly well. He said that would be a waste of money! And he went on to say that this would probably be Ross Jr's first car if it was still running fine in 4 more yrs...my mouth dropped open!! He just chuckled and grinned real big. He said we were going to meet the family at their favorite steak house; I had not learned my lesson; I was expecting a fancy restaurant. We went to a nice; but modest little steak house/diner. As we were looking at the menus the children would make their selections; then ask their Daddy if that selection was "too expensive"...I'll never forget how shocked I was that they asked him that; the third wealthiest man in the United States!! I ordered a hamburger steak that night...I never order hamburger steak!! He went on to tell me that he had grown up very poor and that he had struggled and worked hard for what he had; that he did not believe in spending this money extravagantly or without good intentions. At that time he was doing a lot to help soldiers MIA in Viet Nam. His assistant's husband was missing...I wore one of the pewter bracelets with his name on it for many years. The last I heard; he had not been found. He wanted his children to appreciate what they had; know the value of the dollar; I think most of all just lead an honest life like they had seen by his example...he rarely let an opportunity pass to teach a life's lesson. I've never met anyone like him; he's definitely one of a kind; highly intelligent; and very honest; kind; and down-to-earth man. | |

| That's a great story about H Ross ...Somehow not terribly surprising, though it would have been at the time. I have several of his Presidental bid buttons and maybe a t-shirt somewhere around here. | |

| I just have a curiousity question. What is the most WGC horses that one mare has produced and what bloodlines does she come from? I'm doing some bloodline and production studying for breeding ideas. Thanks! | |

| Horsegurl, I believe the answer is TWO and I think that the mare might be MERRY WALKER who produced WGC's Go Boy's Shadow and Rodger's Perfection. She was by Merry Boy. Interesting fact: She was half Standardbred Here is some info on her and her pedigree: http://www.walkerswest.com/Champs/MerryWalker.htm | |

No attempts on that one. The answer is: H.S. Musselwhite of Maitland, Florida. Musselwhite Eggs were a well-known brand all over the Sunshine State at one time. | |

| In the early 60's, a TWH was shipped by rail from Tennessee to San Francisco to compete in a horse show at The Cow Palace. Name the horse and rider. | |

| I should know this cause I think thatthe article is in one of the Voices that I sent to Smitty. HOWEVER this is a WILD guess - Sun's Delight - or Triple Threat? Now I'll stop guessing and let someone with some sense answer. | |

| Not quite, but you might be getting warm. This horse was not a WGC, but the rider has ridden several. | |

| Horsegurl, You might also want to consider this in your production research. Delight's Country Girl produced a TWH WGC, Delight of Pride, and a RH WGC, Powerful Threat ( I think was his name). | |

| Regarding Merry Walker, in addition to producing 2 WGCs, she also produced Shadow's Sis, who in turn produced WGC Mark Of Carbon. She also produced Sun's Dark Lady, one of the top show mares of her day and another mare by Roger's Perfection, I think her name was Walking Doll, who was highly regarded but died young. | |
