| The Racking Horse is CORRECT! Speaking of the Marsh Tackys...... Some time ago I found an interesting article in a 1953 newspaper that mentions Marsh Tackys being bred to Tennessee Walking Horses on Bull Island off the coast of South Carlina, near Hilton Head. This was near Bluffton on the Powell Crosley Jr. Plantation: | |

| Maybe I'm slow  but I didn't quite understand the reason The Brooks' named Allandale after Roan Allan?? The article didn't give any connection between them and the horse. Do you know what it was? The architect was Allen Dryden but I don't see that as a connection. | |

| The link below is to an article that discussess the running walk and the rack and addresses today's performance horse and it's gait. It was a very interesting article and I would be interested to hear other opinions. http://www.howetheywalk.com/walk%20vs%20rack.htm | |

| Hill,
I would guess the reason is simply that Roan Allen was THE horse of the time and most likely was the sire of most, if not all of the horses the family owned.

| I've talked with several licensed active judges over the past few years that said basically the same thing. After watching that stake class at Columbia, I'd have to agree... | |

| One thing I appreciated very much about that article was that it wasn't shrill. In '04, I attended my first walking horse show since - well, fairs used to alternate walking classes with "gaited" classes, otherwise Helen Crabtree wouldn't have had time to catch her breath. In other words, close to 30 years. One thing that surprised me the most was that the flat walks were so fast and that the running walk didn't look much different than the FW. ------- https://thebarnoffice.forumotion.net/viewtopic.forum?t=298 | |
