Well it didn't take me long...I located a possible horse and a great traveling partner too Like you said; it is a long way off and so are we...that is bit of a drawback; but heck getting to see all of you guys would be worth the trip!!! I sure hope BD and MIB will consider coming too...that would be even more encouragement to make the trip!!
twhemt...Who is Mikey? I mean how is he fitting into your breeding program...a new stallion perhaps? I checked out your website and did not see him or any mention of his breeding (or not that I could immediately find)?? He is very nice...lots of head motion and natural walking ability!! Also..It sure would be nice if you could make the BSF trail ride if it in fact comes together. But talk about a trip...whew; that would be one for you!!!

I have been all over the country trail riding and hunting. We were hunting and trail riding in there before it was a federal park.
The locals call it "No Business".
My dad broke colts there. We would saddle them up and hold them down while he got on and then meet him 20 miles up the trail at "Bell Farm, Ky" where everyone would camp for the night and play music and "party" before heading back the next morning.

Ritz,
My Dad has grouse hunted all over that country before it was federally owned. Names of places such as "No Business", "Difficulty" and "Troublesome" reflect the rugged land and the hard living from those who lived here. The Bell Farm area is one I'm quite familiar with. Here's a couple of photos of Rock Creek I took one fall afternoon several years back when I was down that way fishing for trout. These shots were taken just downstream from Bell Farm. This is probably the prettiest small creek in the state of Kentucky.

I know those places well.
"Squeeze rock", "Mill shack", "Maude's crack", "Incline", "terry Cemetery", are other places I used to frequent.

I haven't ridden in years and was always a bit "feared" of trail riding, but the scenery there is gorgeous and I could certainly "camp out" in that little cabin, so maybe I can get counted in on this party too!!!

I need to cut some weight or find me a gaited draft horse to go on any long range trail rides. LOL.
My dad knows it like the back of his hand. I have walked many of those horse trails at night coon hunting.

Here are some of the "nicer" cabins available in the area. OHM tells me reservations for these cabins fill up very fast for the Fall season in the Big South Fork:

Trail ride sounds great - got to borrow a horse and do some "butt" exercises. Been a long time since my butt has been in a saddle for that length of time. Sure does sound like fun!

Bubbadog, if we can organize a ride and make this thing happen next year, you simply MUST attend and ride. So, save a few vacation days for next Fall, practice riding all you can this next year and head North on I-75 next October. See if you can talk MIB into making the trip up too. Maybe y'all can carpool (?).
The Big South Fork is everything everybody has said it is, and more.

There used to be a few. I seen a lot of sign in there one year. The hogs seemed to have dwindled in No Business. After that bad ice storm/blizzard, I believe alot of them starved out.

What about Black Bear? Are there certain areas of the BSF where they are more prevalent? I suspect they may be present in the Rock Creek basin.

Believe it or not, I have never seen a bear in the BSF. I have not been there as frequently since they began introducing them to the area, but I have seen tracks. I camped at Alum Ford Campground last Fall and expected to see some, but never did. I never saw any at Station Camp either, but it's been awhile since I camped there.
If they are everywhere, then they must have multiplied rapidly!

For Bubbadog and others that fell the need to practice riding you can go to Bobo Farms Facebook page and take a virtual ride in the barn.
Smitty, I never saw a bear up there last summer myself but plenty of other folks did. There are also elk, big elk, in that area now. They don't bother to jump a fence they just plow right through it.
