| Did Merry Go Boy sell for over $10,000 when C.C. Turner bought him?
I do know that Carbon Copy sold for $125,000 but I don't know if he was the first over $100,000
Did Larry Edward's 3 year old sell for over $ 1 million? | |

| Actually, I'm not sure of the correct answers on any of these, to be honest............BUT.....
• I seem to recall some old info stating that Merry Go Boy may have been the first to break the 10K mark.
• Not sure what horse broke the 100K mark, but the time-frame of the early 70's would seem right. Didn't Shades of Carbon top the 150K mark later on, to become the most expensive TWH of that time?
• I saw some info on another site that claimed "Jose Jose" was the first horse to break the 1 MIL mark. Can't verify that, though.....

| CC paid $40K or $50K for Go Boy. There was some sort of issue with the price and the IRS. What CC Paid and what SW declared. One of these two made a mistake. Was resolved without any real trouble with the IRS. Everett Woods was CC's bookeeper and he told me the whole story. The numbers were 40 and 50. I can't remember who did what, just the basis of the story. | |

| Seems like Shades did sell for a chunk. And it also seems like Decker's daddy was a shareholder in Merry Go Boy - I COULD be making that up but I don't think so. Maybe she will get on here and clarify this - I'll mention it to her. | |

| Carbon Copy did sell for $125,000. around 1964. I'd say Jose Jose brought a huge hunk of change. I thought he was the highest $$$ at one time. At one time I'd say a World Grand Champion Stallion could make a lot of money from stud fees. I beleive that is why a mare hasn't won the big stake since 1954. | |

| If you invested $1,000,00 at 4% interest after 20 years you would have $2,122,582. If you bough a horse for $1,000,000 and he was lucky enough to win the Championship, at age 5 and he lived to age 25 and bred 100 mares a year at $1000 per mare you would have $2,000,000 if you paid nothing for his upkeep. | Why then spend that kind of money? Wonder how Vic THompson and others made any money back in the 1960's from stud fees? I missing something here. Stud fees, selling show horses, colts??? | |

| That was then this is now. Colts are selling for the same thing now or less then they sold for when a World Champion Stud Cost $100,000. | |

| Another thing that helped the profitability of the breeding business back in the 60's was the lack of competition. In 1957 when Vic Thompson won on Sun's Jet Parade there were only 5 World Champion stallions. In the early years mares and geldings won more than stallions. Now there must be 15 or more world champion stallions to pick from. And there's a new one every year. | |
