| I would guess Midnight Sun????? Wilson Allen was his Pa, it may have been him. This line took the trot out of the Standardbreds. The interesting thing is, Wilson Allen traced back to Standardbred stallions on both sides, fairly close on his Pedigree. | |

| Wilson Allen would be the more correct answer. Were his ancestors trotters or pacers??? | |

| I would say trotters, if you go back to the denmarks(they are prominent in the ASB line).... of course Allen F1 was supposed to trot becaues of his ancestry, but didn't, Ball II was aTB I think | |

| Allen F-1 was a cross between the Hambleton family of trotters and the Morgans, but he was said to pace a mile at 2:30 or better. Allen F-38's dam Gertrude had the blood of Morgans, Standardbreds and Canadian Pacers. Wilson Allen's dam, Birdie Messick was by Allen F-1 and out of a mare sired by a stallion from the Hal line of trotters and out of an unknown mare. | |

Our stallion was by a horse named Carr's Roan Allan. Man could those colts pace. Back in the day it was common practice to pace your colts for 60 days. That was my job. Colts today do not pace like they did back then. Everytime my dad would go by he would say "send them on". I am here to tell you, some of those colts paced so hard that it hurt!!!! Now the Go Boy hosses hit a much smoother gait and they needed sending on. | |

| I remember those days when we paced them out. I think that was where the term "buns of steel" came from | |

| That's right. Red & Bay Roans are also common colors. Interesting note: the McCurdy horses are know to have natural cow herding instincts. | |
