| Editor's Note
In paying tribute to other prominent horse states, besides Tennessee & Kentucky, Missouri cannot be overlooked. The horse history in the "Show Me" State is rich and has deep roots. Missouri once rivaled Kentucky for having the best Saddlebreds and the state has it's own breed called "The Missouri Foxtrotter". The American Royal is one of the oldest and biggest horse shows in the country and is part of the Saddlebred Triple Crown. Legends such as Tom Bass & Art Simmons hailed from there as well. And let's not forget the Walking Horse. Some good horses have come from Missouri, including the 1971 World Grand Champion Handshaker's Delight, Amateur WC Mr. Magic and the great mare Ladies Amateur WC mare Black Magic Woman, who were all trained by Louis Slone. I seem to remember Billy Gray & WC Flashy Pride winning the championship at the Midwest Trainers Show there as well.
Note: I will be merging former Missouri-related topics into this thread to get it started and adding photos as well. I will leave it up to our Missouri members to tell the story of the TWH in their state.smitty Who was the youngest rider to win a WGC? What Year and the Horse? | |

| Did not want to be stooty but it was a great memory. I have heard people say that her feet were taped to the stirrups but not true she used only the stirrup leathers because she was to little to reach past the saddle skirt. thanks for remembering. Magic Marker | |

| I'd like to know more about Louis Slone. Where did he get his start? What other good horses did he train? Did he ever show at the Celebration? What part of Missouri was he from? | |

| The Sire Black Magic stood @ Roland Dickerson Farm Brighton Mo. Witch Doctor, Magic Sue, Mr. Charcoal ...We here in the Ozarks are forever embracing the legend as we see Santana colts emerge. The atmosphere surrounding Louis Slone was contagious as I recall. It was such a joy to travel from show to show... The addiction began there due to the talent of a few good men & women & children~~~ | |
