| I agree Sen69. There are several of the trainers on here that I knew very well. CA Bobo was my trainer for many years; I practically grew up in his barn. I rode many a good horse while we had horses there. He helped us find Hill's Perfection and gave us many years of success in the show ring. I guess Bo and Hill were both sort of like wise old teachers to me...I learned many invaluable lessons from both of them. Everyone knew what a great trainer he was...I wonder how many Celebration blues were won out of his barn? I wouldn't venture a guess; but I know he had many Champion horses and riders and a large clientale; so the numbers had to be high. He was a good trainer and a good man and he meant a lot to me and my family.
In the summer of '71 I lived with Vic and Marilyn Thompson. I had always come to middle Tennessee for the summer and I had stayed with George and Nan Livingstone for several of those summers...I can't recall why I didn't live with Nan that year (she and George were divorced maybe?? sometime after that he passed away?? I can't remember but BD may; we both lived there and at the Thompson's). While at the Thompson's I would meet Larry Webb; the new trainer at Vic's barn. I started going over in the mornings and helping him with the horses and became so impressed with what he could do with a horse that my Daddy (and so did he) decided that we would ask him (Larry) and Vic to find a Ladies mount for me. Larry had seen Johnny's Rebel Maid and Judy Martin and had heard she was for sale...he said she was "a walkin' **as only Larry could put it". They contacted Larry Gribble and the rest was history. I knew Larry when he was young and fresh in the business; he would get SO excited about getting a really good horse...when he had one he felt that "special something" for it almost seemed he could work magic with them...he would put his heart and soul into them; this is what he did with Rebel...she had a reputation as a "difficult horse" and he made her a very special horse...I LOVED that hot-going mare!!! He also felt that "something" for the 2 yr old Ebony's Senator colt (Senator) we bought...there was a special bond between Larry and that colt. Larry called me the night that Rebel died (I no longer owned her but she would forever be "my horse")...they were on their way home from a horse show when she collapsed with a heart attack and died... he had to leave her in the horse trailer until the vet came to determine cause of death..something to do with the insurance. He called while he was waiting on the vet and told me what happened...he said he was so hurt and hated the thought of her out there in that horse trailer...so we ended up sitting there crying together over the phone until the vet came. That was the Larry I knew and respected; he was one of my best friends and I loved him dearly. It really hurts that I lost contact with him and didn't even know he was sick. I heard he had changed a lot; but the only Larry I knew meant the world to me and I wish I could have been there for him in his time of need. | |

| Thanks for including that picture of my old horse, Smitty. That picture was taken before I knew him. It was either the 3 year old stud class or stake in '78. He was supposed to have been on the "lean" side and had big bald patches all over his body. You can see one of the spots on his hip bond in this picture. They rubbed graphite on the spots to make him look black.

| Well, the Ky State Fair starts Thursday and it's an exciting time here in the Bluegrass, right up there with the Derby and Keeneland's spring & fall meets. I know not everyone is a fan of both breeds, but I'll try to post some ASB stuff this week, if I can find anything. Here's one of the truly GREAT Fine Harness horses of all time. | |

| From those show results it appears J T Leech was a pretty successful saddlebred trainer. | |
