| That was way back in the year 1909. I believe this is the oldest continuous horse show in the U.S. | |

| Amie Boyd MarksAmie Boyd Marks has been around a while and seen a lot. She is one of the few living who was riding horses back when the Celebration was just getting started in the late 1930's. Several of the photos below are from the original Shelbyville Rideathon. Of course, her children went on to become successful Walking Horse exhibitors, but Amie's impressive show ring record was accomplished mostly on Saddlebreds. Here's an excerpt from "The Official Horse Show Blue Book", Volume 35, 1942: "In 1941, Miss Boyd exhibited her three-gaited pony Ginger Dare and her three-gaited mare Betsy Ross at prominent shows in Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama and Tennessee, taking more than fifty ribbons, nineteen of which were blues or champions."Amie has had a tough time lately, first with heart surgery and now with hip-replacement surgery, from which she is now recovering in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Here's one of her latest Facebook posts: "I walked 175 feet today at Physical Therapy! I am tired of course but feel good about that accomplishment! Also got a walker... Not a Tennessee walker but a walker... For some reason they would not let me have one!"

| I cannot remember the address off the top of my head nor can I access Facebbok at work...but Woody Marks posted the address of the rehab center in Lynchburg on his FB page. Encouraging everyone to send cards, especially humorous ones , to Big Amie. Maybe someone can post the address on WHTrivia. If not, I'll look it up when I get back home tonight. | |

Here's some more interesting info on Amie from her daughter, Amie Lee: "Back then She was known as "Little Amie Boyd". Mama had her own string of show ponies and or horses, that traveled in a box truck. On both sides of the truck in big letters was LITTLE AMIE BOYD. Durning school she was on the basket Ball team and the girls would load up in the back of the Horse hauling truck to travel to the different towns to play their ball games." | |

| Photos from AlabamaHere's a couple of interesting and unusual photos taken in the late 50's or early 60's at a hunting lodge in Alabama. The captions don't say what breed the horse is, but judging from the tail set, bit and legs, it very well could be a Tennessee Walker (?) Governor John Patterson sitting on a horse in front of Congressman Frank W. Boykin's hunting lodge in McIntosh, Alabama. A sign in front of the house reads, "Where Everything Is Made for Love / Frank W. Boykin." Boykin signed the photograph. Date: 1958-1963 circa Chief Justice Ed Livingston sitting on the same horse | |
