Celia Schuptrine was from Dallas County, Alabama. With tears in my heart I say goodbye to those of you who will not continue these wonderful conversations. I do wish David and Christy would make some type of arrangements for the "retired" friends to be able to access the forums........Perhaps with some viable information as to who they are and that they are no longer actively involved. Who knows, maybe our usefulness is gone????? Sarah Lynn Bledsoe bledsoesl@aol.co please email me- for old times sake ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BUBBADOG Saddletramp - the next time that you go to the boat dock and see Connell - please tell him that Cissy sends her love - it has been a long time - also if you called him "Rubber Ducky" he might get a real laugh and tell you a funny tale. Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BUBBADOG Hey Everette - stay in touch - keep on sending me those highly sophisticated and tasteful e-mails - I love them - c ____________________________________________________________________________________________ twhlady Well folks, I just subscribed for WHReport.....and will do whatever is necessary on Monday to be able to continue learning the news, keeping up with events, receiving notices of births and deaths of loved ones in our great industry..........and seeing nice ads of people showing our great breed........AND CHATTING WITH THOSE OF YOU WHO REMAIN....... I SINCERELY HOPE AT LEAST SOME OF YOU JOIN UP AND SUBSCRIBE. It will be a shame for us to lose touch... again.......after so long. Those of you who do subscribe, please add your names to our thread.......Those of you who do not, perhaps you will take the time to send an email from time to time. I emailed Christy and David to let them know there is a contingency of horsemen, no longer industry involved except in the heart, who would like to continue chatting...... Hopefully, they will make some allowances for those who are retired and/or those who have only an interest in keeping up with old friends and talking about old times......... Maybe they will do something to allow payment only for the chat. I am sure IF this can be done, there will be a system for guaranteeing that WHReport is not wanted/needed........in order to qualify only for the chat......... Remember add your screen names if you will continue... And to the rest, maybe something will be done. Sarah Lynn ____________________________________________________________________________________________ everready Sara Did you read the poem to the WGC'S and the salute to the people that has passed on, that we did, your beloved one is in there , its back on page 62, read it and let me know what you think Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ J441 twhlady, thank you for starting this great thread, and thanks to David and family for providing this service for so long, then only charging a minimal fee to keep it running. No one else through the years has tried to bring the TWH news to the public in such an honest and unbiased way. I was trying to decide what to do when I realized that instead of driving 45 miles (1 hour) to the trainer's show, I'm working to get my boat in shape. The decision has already been made... I have enjoyed chatting with all of you. Best of luck to each and everyone in the future, and maybe I'll take some time off from fishing to hit a horse show or two and see you there. Regardless, as Red Skelton said in his sign-off at the end of his show every night..."may God bless!" Richard Hickey ridatras@bellsouth.net ____________________________________________________________________________________________ everready Please Everyone email me ,I have a Question emajors@tampabay.rr.com Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Saddle Tramp J441 We went to show Last night (fri), people said wed & thur were great, last night wasn't. Started 1 hr late, dispute with feds I heard, About 1/3 seating capacity in Calsonic, small classes & poor quality. Left after 3 yr old filly riders cup. Might go back tonight. If you fish at nickajack wouldn't mind meeting you there sometime & fishing with you. Goodbye to all Evrt you have given 2 diff emails please confirm? Will miss yall Ken Moore ____________________________________________________________________________________________ everready Saddle Tramp email me at emajors@tampabay.rr.com Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Saddle Tramp Evrt Thanks, saw Charles Brantley & told him you are in Tampa, he has computor, will find out if he has email. Saw Hoyt T. also. Saw D.H. but didn't talk. Talked to Jane Moores 93 yr old father Jake Lacey. 2 yrs ago at Cele a man told him if he didn't quite smoking, he wouldn't make it to 90, He responded I' m already 91. Have a great day KRM ____________________________________________________________________________________________ J441 twhlady, I do subscribe to the paper & have for several years. I enjoy reading the Report cover to cover every week, and I'm sure you will as well. Another trivia question, but does anyone remember Benvis Beechboard? Saddletramp, there was also another fellow at the sales we called "Buckboard". Do you remember him or know his real name? Do you know who owns Earnest Starnes' old farm, or if it is even still there? I know so many of the old farms are now subdivisions, but this one bordered on a wildlife refuge area. Hope it is still there. Also, someone said "Mostella" (sp? I think his first name was Charles) who worked for Joe Van Clayton had passed away. Does anyone know? It was also nice to hear from Priscilla (sp?) Talley and Micky Groom on this thread. Micky was the first exhibitor to have her mount throw a shoe at the Celebration in it's current location. She had a daughter who starred in a network television soap. Well, back to the boat. I'm making progress... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ graymare I remember Benvis Beachboard. Not only did he show horses, he also officiated many of the basketball games I played in. He was a good, honest official and always friendly. Wasn't his barn in Bell Buckle? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ everready Benvis Beachboard was from Bell Buckle, he was allergic to penecilin, when i was just a kid when one of his horses would need a shot of pen. i would go out and do it for him. He use to raise Blooded Butcher Corn, best corn you ever ate.they use to call benvis (Buckboard) Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ J441 Everready, your memory is much better than mine. You are right; Beachboard & Buckboard were the same person. Do you remember the twisted walking sticks he made? He gave me one after I insured a couple of horses with him. After a horse event in Birmingham one night, he took the microphone in a small bar and started singing Jim Reeves songs without any backup music. Even the paid act sat and enjoyed. Benvis had a very nice singing voice. I'll drop you an email & we'll chat some more. Saddletramp, we'll get together. Nickajack sounds good. My boat is just a 15.5' runabout trihull, 30 years old this year and looks it, but it's fun to be on the water. Just a somewhat interesting note; when David Howard was with the Voice magazine, he wrote an article (cover story) about my dad and dubbed him "Mister Horsetrader USA". Dad enjoyed the title so much that after his wife Katie passed away and he bought the two adjoining grave sites so that he could be buried next to her. There is a single headstone for the two graves, and his side is marked "R.B. Hickey, Mister Horsetrader USA". I brought Dad to a sale a couple of years ago and Saddletramp had the issue, and gave it to Dad. Really made his day! Off again, drop me a line sometime! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ everready J441 I do remember the crooked walking canes that benvis made,i do remember your dad also, never seen him without his cowboy hat on.He bought and sold a lot of horses thru Murray Farm sales.Benvis did have a tragic end to his life, it was so sad. my email emajors@tampabay.rr.com Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ everready David and Christy Look at this thread, its plum pitful the BEST thread on this ENTIRE SITE, i was the last post at 5:30 this morning its now 8:30pm, SHAME ON YOU. WHAT A SHAME Everett Majors ____________________________________________________________________________________________ horsetrainer hey am a young guy but have really enjoyed this thread i loved hearing the storys of the past. im unable to affored this right now. i learned alot from here and am sad i wont be able to read anymore my email is horsetrainer06@yahoo.com someone email me if things change or if u have a good story. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ J441 Folks, I'll leave the thread on "History and Trivia" with a few statements/opinions about the future... I do not trust the government. Whatever they appear to agree on will go out the window the week of Fayetteville, Belfast, & Wartrace. They want to get the most bang for their buck, and attacking during this week has proven to cause the most disheartening damage. When the USDA proves it can be consistent throughout the year and stop these tactics, I'll listen to them again. This being said, bring the horses to the show clean. No excuses. This coming from an ex-trainer & horse trader who has seen and done many things. I cleaned up my act & found it to be very profitable while making it much easier to sleep at night. Never got written up, but changed for the better anyway. Pointing our fingers at the faults in other breeds only makes the non-horse owning public think all horse owners are dirty. Stop. It does no good and makes no friends among the people who love the other breeds. We need to be accepted, not shunned. Final note: don't think you can do whatever you want at the barn & come to the show clean. The detractors are much more educated and are not buying the bull. The horses will tell on you at inspection. Put your butt in the saddle and invest the time. The final product will be worth it & there will be no alternative soon anyway. Know what makes this thread so great? All the fond memories and fellowship from years gone by. We owe it to the generations to come to preserve this industry. I love Tennessee Walking Horses and most all the people associated with them. Thanks again, Sarah Lynn! See you at Columbia or the Fun Show!!!

| (PAGE 79) headstrong I've been a member of the site for awhile and hadn't been over to this thread for a little while and my oh my! Yall can talk and I just spent alllll evening going through all the pages I have missed and I sure have enjoyed it. I wish WHR would reconsider their charges. I used to get the paper but quit it when it became old news. I have really enjoyed it and if anyone wants to write personally I'd enjoy hearing from you. hillcrest@netease.net This is such a shame. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ twhlady Well foks, I'm here...........Seems rather lonesome. Any of you who arrive her, please say hello and we will continue our conversations. I truly hope we have not lost too many of our friends as a result of the changeover. Everyone must realize, this web site is absolutely the best source for news about our great horse and all our friends whom we know and love. Sarah Lynn PS - Please acknowledge that you are here. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ THE END NOTE: Actually there are a couple more pages to the original Walking Horse Trivia thread on the WHR site, but from this point on, most ALL of the regulars are GONE.
The thread continued for just a short while and finally fizzled out in June of 2007. Christy Parsons was the last poster on that thread.
This was one of the longest, interesting and FUN threads I have ever been a part of. It is a shame it had to end, but perhaps it worked out for the best in the long run.

| But it really wasn't the end, was it? After a lot of trial and error a new board was finally born in March of 2007. Unfortunately, we had some problems with the first board with hackers and all the information was lost. I made a new, temporary board, in December of that year, which we used before migrating to the current one. The following is some of the conversation from that board. I will be skipping around a little and leaving a few minor things out of this next segment, but some interesting chat here as well, with a little lighter and casual tone and with many of the same players. You will notice something different about this segment......this time around we have photos !!! Trivia Board #2Date: December, 2007 Topic: Who Dat? Page 1EverettWho's Dat____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonMr Brantley and the BEST unknown Horsemen in TWH history Johnny Brown from Beautiful Beechgrove Tn ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogWhats that Talk's sippin on? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYou should be able to guess that Bubbadog! By the way, I have been informed that Connie (Cbobo) had surgery last week and is home recovering. Let's keep her in our thoughts. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettIts gotta be JD, that was is favorite drink, so i was told Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ SadlbumI believe the first picture is French Brantley, Charles' daddy (but I have been known to be wrong) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogSmitty - it COULD have been George Dickel! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum by golly i think you are right on being Mr French, he and Mr. Charlie looked a lot a like Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dis____________________________________________________________________________________________ Gritsis it Master of Jazz at the UT football game ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettGrits Good guess but thats not him Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GraymareIt might be RPM at the UT football game. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettGraymare You got the ballgame right, but its not RPM Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ SadlbumHow about OOPs? Otherwise, it could be Pat Rigual's Storm Threat but he wouldn't have been at a UT ballgame. And does anyone else see a resemblence between Mr. Charlie and Henry Fonda? They have the same eyes, pug nose, color of hair and body build. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYeah, I see a resemblance. I watched the Grapes of Wrath just the other day. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettYep Sadlbum see it was OOPS ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho Dat Baby Boy____________________________________________________________________________________________ GraymareThat be Mr. Vernon, Ms. Gladys, and Baby Elvis. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettGraymare you ar right, that is Baby Elvis ,mom and dad Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSmitty was that Mr. French or Mr. Charlie Brantley, I thought for sure it was Charlie Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettMason You and I have spent a lot of time in that ole Barn there in BeechGrove,Haven't we, remember that ole Tack trunk that set in the front crosstie by Steve's Office Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonI think it was an old red wooden box wasn't it? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettYep Mason , it was a Red Wooden Hand made Tack Box, course we all used it to set on, do you remember the Sweat Scrapers we used?it was the top of a Big Tin Can , nailed to a piece of wood shaped like a Paddle. That picture you sent me of Jessie, Jackie and Steve, Jessie was holding one of them Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum was right, The first photo is Mr. J. FRENCH Brantley, the pioneer of horse breeding in middle Tennessee. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI can just barley remember Mr. French, He was an old man when i was born there, But I remember Mr. Charlie real well, saw him 7 or 8 yrs. ago when i went by Richard Myers barn in Manchester Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GritsI should have known that was oops I have a picture of him on my dresser. On the way home from the 2005 Celebration I made up a game for myself, I would only get ball caps of two horses I thought would win. In 2006 I went 15 times to the four mac barn to see master of jazz I ask a young man if he was there and he ask me why I wanted to know and I told him that he was my pick to win, the young man smiled and lead me to his stall and I got to go in and pet him, what a thrill for me(almost wet my pants). The man gave me a hat and we all know how that season ended... In 2007 master of jazz was my pick again so I got another hat (the first one was tatered and worn) and he won... I can't wait to keep up with the horses show stats this year to see if my luck holds up. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonYes those scrapers were made out of coffee can lids......we used them when I worked there.Saved the bought ones for shows.....remember watering all those horses in that old tub?You would nearly freeze to death watering all those in the old barn...I loved it though....Steve was a good businessman...spent as little as anybody I've ever known for tack and etc.Remember he kept his show bridle in the trunk of his car.He told me once he used the same bit on all the WC he rode...Talking about Showmen he and Sam showed ALL the time..they never wore ballcaps and tennis shoes did they? When you saw them out they were dressed like successful horsemen. Not grease monkeys! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettYep Mason those guys were first class act.I never seen either of them out that they weren't dressed to the nine's, thats who i mirrowed my self after, And Gentelman they both were Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat____________________________________________________________________________________________ GraymareThat would be Pop Gray. Does anyone remember the year that Billy showed Ebony's Threat at the Fun Show? That was one fine animal that night - I got the cold chills watching him - I can't remember who won that night though. I think that it was 1981. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Bubbadog You are right, thats Billy Gray, what Horse is that? The Reason I think Billy is one of, if not the Best Trainers in the Business in our era.Just look at his record. To become a GREAT Trainer, FIRST Thing You NEED , Is Good Stock to start with, and down thru the years Billy has had his share of The Best Prospects to Start Training ( Makes A Big Differance )Had Great Work Ethic's (Big Key )In my Opinion on showing, Including myself, I was Pretty Damn Good,There is NO One sets in the saddle and Presents a Horse Better than Billy Gray. Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogOooops - I forgot the horse - that is Secret Threat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettNa Bubbadog, Look again ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MakethecutIs the horse that Billy is riding Night Prowler? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogHey Tone - I know you right! | |

Eddie ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Bubbadog It is Delight Of Pride Can you name the Trainer that had him Before Billy Him ____________________________________________________________________________________________ makethecut Didn't the Edwards have him before Billy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Bubbadog My two cents worth is going in with MaketheCut - I'm pretty sure that the Edwards brothers had him before Billy ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty I am going to say Jimmy Holder had him..... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSmitty It was Jimmy Holder Makethecut and Bubbadog , Edwards Bro's had him as a 3yr.old, ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Graymare For the three guys picture, the one in the middle is Elvis. How do I know? Well, there are pictures of my hubby that look just like Elvis (and those that don't) but the one in the middle is nearly a copy of some I have of a very young Don. I have no clue who the other two are. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Graymare That is a very young Elvis and i don't know the other two neither, his bud's i guess ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Eddie I had Jim Dixon come to Augusta Ga. and take a Picture of Ebony's Hostess a week before i sold her to Wink,It was the Best Unretouched picture of a 2yr.old you ever saw,her Head and ever leg was in the right place, even her ears was up, Dixon said it was the easyest money he ever made, didn't do nothing to it. I had it hanging in my Barn Office and someone Borrowed it, and it was the only one i had of her, Jim couldn't find the negetive of it, so i don't have No picture of her, She was the best colt i ever had, and might have been the best horse i ever had ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdI watched Gray work her many times. No kidding. Sure looks like him. I'd a bet money, too. Well, I think I can safely say that it's not Elvis. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty There was a famous country-western song written about the rider above, it was performed by Willie Nelson & Merle Haggerd and written by Townes Van Zandt. Now you gotta name the person AND the song! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ JeanI knew it was Hall Allen , because i have a picture of him since he is in my champagne horses pedigree. I try to get every one i can find. I'm having lots of fun. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ LarryI believe the person "leading the charge" is Francisco Villa, better known as Pancho. TR, likely, would have been bespectacled. Did Danny Forrester have Delight Of Pride as a younger horse --perhaps as a two y/o? larry ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Larry, You get the prize! That is indeed Ole Pancho Villa in his better days. The country song was "Pancho & Lefty" of course. As for Delight of Pride, I do believe he was started by Danny Forrester, maybe Everett will know for sure. Glad you made it on here and I promise I won't ask you if you have another brother named Darryl..... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Larry You are right, Danny Forrester did Break Delight of Pride as a 2 yr. old. I dont know that horse in the picture ,someone else is gonna have to tell us who that one is..whoever it is tis a good picture ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettMason I remember Joe's Horses name, but i can't place the horse,Tis a good picture, seems to me like someone in LA. owned that horse, maybe the guy that owned Shades Of Carbon at one time, next time you run into Joe ask him, I want to go by that ole Hotel next time i'm up there Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettNow Who's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbum I'm thinking the Hoss is Hunters Allen F10 & the lady up front is Miss Jean Hunter & the passenger I don't have a clue. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumI believe that this was a young mare that Mr Cecil Melton from Shebvul owned, but I can't put a name on her, this picture was probably in a Blue Ribbon from 1970 - 1985. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum You right, Ya'll just plain Darn Good,Joe Martins horse 's name is Star of Tullos, and i can't remember that horse Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbum Joe Martins current wifes name is Cena (seena). Is the Wart race Hotel now open for business? Can 2 eat there for less than 30 dollurs? Me & my misses might have to check it out some Sundy. I like lookin at old pichurs. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogGlen Loe bred and owned Star of Tullos gl ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog Thats who i thought owned him, wasn't he from LA Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty(Note: Image link lost) Who Datn? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonDEE DEE & that Horse I cant spell his name MASK something ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonSadlbum...I laid down $45 for the buffet and tip....I went to the opening a few weeks ago one night and was VERY impressed...but was not at all thrilled about the buffet Sunday..They had a live Jazz band, and they were great but the food was VERY ordinary..Had rather gone to Mings in Tullahoma and would have spent about 14 bucks.OR the Bellbuckle Cafe...I love the Hotel... it is unbelievable..hes spent a fortune, but I doubt I'll go back to the buffet..HOPE they improve...just MY opinion dont let that stop you from trying it..I WANT him to make a go of it for sure..That place is a piece of history I want to see preserved. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ grits On the subject of the Hotel, we stopped in a few years ago to check it out for our next years Celebration lodging and the owner was giving us a brief history of the place, in my witty sense of humor I ask if it was haunted. She replied it was and told of strange footsteps heard by guest. Does anyone know if it is true or was she just jearkin my chain. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ makethecut About Star of Tullos. His original name was Ace's Superstar(one of the best 3 year olds i've ever seen). He was bred by Lamar Nash Buford ,Ga.and out of a Spirit of Midnight mare that he bought at the Sugarloaf Farms dispersal sale. Charlie Daniels bought him as a colt and later sold him to Mr.Lowe who changed his name. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Bubbadog See ya'll Tony knows EVERYTHING in detail! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ makethecutI know very little, but I happened to be at Flip Cook's barn the day that Dr. Rand induced the mare.

Don't bust my bubble Tone - I view you as a being of ENORMOUS intellect - mainly I am fascinated that you REMEMBER so much given your advancing age! __________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty (missing image) Who? __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog I think Makethecut is right, I do remember that Colt now, I judged Alanta show at Stone Moutian Ga,Joe showed this colt as a 2yr. old, BEST 2 yr. old I EVER seen, and won the class, but was all over the ring, and found out later he was a MEAN sucker. He could stick his back Legs futher under him than any horse I ever saw, I now remember Mr. Loe buying him and changing his name. Everett __________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogOkay - was that when the show was at Stone Mountain and it was FREEZING? I remember him now too - but didn't know that you were judging that show - that would have been around 1973 or 74 - right? __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI'm thinking around that time, but i don't recall it being that cold, course back then i would take a nip or two, and don't recall the weather, but i do remember that horse, Bad Puppy Everett __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog they were 3 judges, Me, Don Bell, and i can't remember the 3rd Everett __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSmitty Is that Will Rodgers ? __________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Yes, that's Will Rogers.... One of the most famous and adored Americans ever. Cherokee-American cowboy, comedian, humorist, social commentator, vaudeville performer and actor. Does anyone know if it is true or was she just jearkin my chain.Grits, According to MANY sources, the hotel is one of the most haunted places in the state of Tennessee. Believe what you will, but I have looked up some info on that subject and have heard it was used as a hospital for soldiers during the Civil War. I have also heard one room in particular is extra-haunted. Here is a link to more info in the Times-Gazette: http://www.t-g.com/story/1286155.html__________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumGrits, It was built after the Civil War & there haint no sech thangs as ghostes. __________________________________________________________________________________________ grits Sadlbum, after reading that story smitty found I would keep an open mind. There may not be ghostes but there is some spirits in that ol place an I ain't talkin bout the ones you drink... __________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyGrits, It is important to separate what is myth and what is fact concerning these stories about ghosts, UFOs and even Bigfoot. Sadlbum is probably right about the hotel being built after the war, so those rumours about it being a Civil War hospital are obviously false. However, I think there have been enough reports of strange occurences at the hotel to say there is indeed may be be some sort of repeating phenomena going on there. I have seen enough strange things in my days to know better than to rebuke and scoff at those who claim to have seen strange things. All it takes to change your point of view on these things is something strange happening to you just ONE TIME. We like to thing as human beings that we are the highest form of intelligence there is and that we have the answer for everything, but we are fools to think that way. There are not logical explanations for everything and we should keep an open mind. __________________________________________________________________________________________ gritsWell, it is really a cool place BUT I don't think anyone wants to see me runnin' down the interstate in my P.J's in the middle of the night (I spook easy and I am skeert of the dark) so I will visit it in the day and maybe have lunch there when I go to the Celebration this year. __________________________________________________________________________________________ GuestGrits, Had to laugh If you go running down the interstate in your night attire from the Walking Horse Hotel, in beautiful downtown Wartrace, you will have been frightened beyond belief. It is several miles from the hotel to the interstate. Sorry, just couldn't resist __________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyGrits, If you git spooked you can call Mason to come pick you up. He don't live too far up the road. The absolute strangest stories of paranormal activity I have EVER heard of come out of UTAH. I was out there a few years back and it is indeed a strange, but also oddly beautiful place. Has anyone ever heard of the Gorman Ranch up in northeast Utah? If you haven't, let me say that the strange activities up there are both so BEYOND BELIEF as to be unbelievable, yet at the same time, so well-documented that it cannot be refuted that something very, VERY ODD is going on there. This is some of the strangest stuff you will ever hear about.... Read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinwalker_Ranch__________________________________________________________________________________________ gritsSmitty there would only be one I would call and thats the good Lord beggin him to not let my feet fail me now, I wouldn't even look back till I was well past the Ga. line... You notice how several of the episodes have involved children? __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettEddie and Bubbadog That is Joe Webb But what Horse is that, Think about it Everett __________________________________________________________________________________________ gritsBubbadog, we can't talk about them ghostes anymore, a few hours ago I was walkin out the back door and one pushed me off the bottom step and I landed on the concrete floor. I'm ok just scraped, bruised and a few muscles begining to get sore... Noooo, I'm not kidding, I haven't fallen down since my last good drunk and that was many years ago. __________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdCarbon Copy or The Entertainer Eddie __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettEddie Its Carbon Copy as a 2Yr.old Everett __________________________________________________________________________________________ gritsWhen did the white cinch become popular? I don't have the answer, that's why I'm asking... __________________________________________________________________________________________ Everettgrits As long as i can remember, I think from the beginning of showing of our great Breed Everett __________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogGrits did you really fall? You okay? I don't think that the ghost pushed you - did you do something to make it mad? Just tell it to go on and it probably will - unless it's mad. I don't remember ever seeing horses shown in anything other than white girths - ya'll remember WHITE shoe polish and canvas girths? Boy shoe polish came in handy in a show barn didn't it? How many uses can we come up with for shoe polish? Remember the colored girths that matched the breatstraps? Now that was a BUTT ugly fashion - I think that I showed with one a couple of times that was black. __________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Those CANVAS girths got me by in my early years of showing pleasure horses. That white shoe polish would make em kind of STIFF wouldn't it? Later on I showed with a girth that matched my headband (white/red center). THOUGHT it was pretty cool back then! (hit don't look so good now.....) __________________________________________________________________________________________ gritsYes Bubbadog I did, ker splat off the step onto the concrete floor. I am bruised and sore but that too shall come to pass. My husband said if he could replay my thought pattern there was a horse thought involved and I wasn't paying attention, my father welcomed me to the golden years (mine will be known as the rusty ones) and my sister-in-law wants to get me the HELP I'VE FALLEN and CAN'T GET UP BUTTON... __________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdI remember those matching girths, breast straps. They were butt ugly. Had a customer who bought a yellow/white set for his horse. I hated it and would take his horse to shows without em. He would ask where they were and I would say I forgot them. That only worked for awhile and eventually I had to use them. I throwed them in when we sold the horse. Whew!! Eddie __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettEddie I used a Black one in and about that time and it didn't look to bad, but i've seen as you have about every color in the book, that Fad was as Bad as Liesure Suits Everett __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dis __________________________________________________________________________________________ Larry Was the picture made in Wartrace? Note the building in the back ground? __________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettLarry We really don't know, hoping someone could recognize the Horse Everett __________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumThis is alledgedlly F38 (see Voice april 94 page 44), I argued with Charles Brantley one time that this wasn't the same horse that his Dad French had his picture taken on ( see Voice may 94 page 34), but He said that this was when the horse was a younger animal. I don't believe this was F38 either. Are you wanting someone to say this is Brooks Allan? The house could have been where the Brantley's house stands now, or some where in the Noah community. __________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum, We don't really know what horse this is, and I'm not sure it's ever really been proven for sure. According to the info on WWest, this photo has been the source of much disagreement for many years. Personally, I don't think it's F-38 either. The hocks are too straight and the markings don't quite match up on the front legs in my opinion. I looked at a number of horses I THOUGHT it might be, but the markings don't seem to match on the front legs of any of them. ??????????? __________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty(missing image) Who Dis? __________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumMe tinks he mite be Kurt Waldheim the former president of the U.N. that visited the Celebration some time ago. But it cud be sumvon else like Henry Kissenger or an old thorobred trainer. Maybe even Rochesters "Boss" Jack Benny. Its definitelly not Richard Simmons. __________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty All good guesses, but not correct. (kinda looks a little like Woody Allen to me!??) But this gentleman died in the 70's and left his mark on the Walking Horse World OUTSIDE of the show ring. He was the FIRST to do several things.......

This is Ben Green, author of "Biography of the Tennessee Walking Horse" which was, I believe, the first book about the breed in 1959. Mr. Green also started the "Voice" in 1962. Here is more info on Ben Green: http://www.fourcraftsmen.com/ben.htm_____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum You are right, thats Toby Green and Go Boy's Rocket, when i worked for Toby he talked a lot about that horse Everett _____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dis _____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogSteve Hill and Hill's Perfection _____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog Right on , I think Hill's Perfection has done more as for promoting this Great Breed than any Horse in our life time Everett _____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogI KNOW that's the truth - did you ever get to ride him? Charlie BoBo could tie the reins on his neck and send him down the hall of that barn with no one on his back - I don't think that there has been another one like him has there? Is there any video of him for those on here who never had the privilege of seeing him? _____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI rode him a bunch of times when Mr. Charlie had him, EVERYTIME i went to Tn. i Always stopped at Bobo's cause i wanted to see some gooden's.Bill, Charles and myself are close to the same age, Bill's a little younger than Charles and myself and i always rode somin when i went by there.I'm not saying this cause Connie is on here, she knows i always come by to see the guys and there stock,Myself,Bill, Charles ,Sammy, Phillip Wilson, and Ernie Cook use to pick a little music Everett _____________________________________________________________________________________________ cbEverett, All the Bobo children learned to ride on Hill and he taught others as well. He was a great teacher! I remember after we decided not to show him anymore Mr. Perot wanted Bill to keep him a year and just use him at different shows and events. He wanted Hill to be an ambassador for the Walking horse. One of the places he was asked to attend was the MTSU homecoming game.........He was great until he saw those lines and then he would give a little bunny hop over it.LOL He carried the flag at many shows that year. He is buried in Mr. Perot's front yard. But I will take one more stab at it & say Mark of Carbon. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum That one is sorty tough not seeing the front view, you were close, it is Carbon Copy ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI notice on this picture of Carbon Copy above, that he is wearing one of those old (tacky?) DIAMOND headbands and noseband to match. Those things were popular at one time, but I thought they were a bit GAUDY even back then. My mom bought one of the diamond headbands for her trail horse. It made roman-nosed Old Smokey look like the richest lookin hoss ever to come down a gravel road! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumReckon Porter WAGNER & Glenn CAMBULL Came up with these RHINESTONES. (Porters suits & Glenns song) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogI remember those old rhinestone things when they were past their prime and the "jewels" would fall out and they would wind up on work bridles - they were really sad looking then. Later on there were the nice patent leather bands that had the rhinestones embedded - I kind of liked them. Did any of ya'll ever show on patent leather saddles? What kind of saddle did ya'll prefer? ___________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyWho Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumBrantley's Roan Allen (F38) Junior Sorry about the abbreviation ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWould that be Brantleys Roan Allen Jr. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYou guys are correct once again. That's Brantley's Roan Allen Jr. The pattern on his neck and shoulders is quite unique and unmistakable, is it not? The picture of J. French Brantley sitting on Roan Allen Jr. is one of my favorite old horse pictures for some reason. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumThat is White Star, the 54 WGC with Percy Moss from Bastrop Louisiana aboard. I don't remember him & I started watching the shows in 67. (Everett, would you go to " Best WGC thread" & read my last comments) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum I am sure he did, thinking back now i think i did meet him at Steve's barn at the celebration Grounds one year.Seems i remember he died at a pretty young age, maybe mason would know Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI love the photo of White Star above. Something about it looks very old-timey..........or is it just the hat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GraymareI remember one of the horses that he had was sort of a different color. I think the name was Le Baron de Bastrop. That horse was sort of a light brown color (not sure what to call it...not sorrell or chestnut or palomino) and he had a grayish mane and tail. That might not have been a natural color though, since you know "in the day" often the color of the poodle, the mane and tail, and the lady's hair were dyed to match. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty(image missing) Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumDavid (Ackerman) Mason (aka STRANG BEAN) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyStringbean, also known as David Akeman was from Anneville, Kentucky, up in Jackson County. Stringbean's life came to a tragic end when he and his wife were murdered by burglars who had broken into their house in Nashville. Here's some more info on Stringbean: http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/stringbean/bio.jhtml____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettPicture above was pretty tough, it was Big Man's Velvet ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWell Who's Dat (this was a junior world champion and a Harlinsdale horse) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI forgot to mention that this week's photos on Who Dat will ALL be direct descendants of MIDNIGHT SUN. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ RamblerThat reminds me (thanks, Graymare)... way back when I was a kid, I saw a walking pony of a color that I can't place. Even though that was <cough>ty years ago, I never forgot what this horse looked like. (Forgive me for using non-horse terms) -- like a palomino but with a silver mane, a bronze-colored coat with a dapple print to it. Kinda like a Rocky, but with that dapple pattern on the haunches. I've seen Shetland ponies that color. No photos, but I remember it was in a walking pony class. I only saw it at one show -- the Owen County Fair. So, I reckon this is a "What's Dat?" question. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumI think this was Steve Hill on Suns Big Shot. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum You got Steve right, but try again on the Hoss

I would be interested in knowing what magazine this picture was in & who shot it? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum I don't know the Mag. or who took the picture, my guess would be Sargent,This Horse sired a Great 15.2 horse that has won multi blues at the celebration, that background looks like it was taken at Mr. Sam's place, thats the kind of fence he had at his stable Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumI have just talked to my good buddy, who told me to guess Midnight Ike on the other picture. He told me this was Midnight Bomb. He would be kin to Ebonys Midnight Bomb & Bombs Ballyhoo. With the bug eyes that was Sargents trademark. He took EBS picture that was on March 62 Voice, the first one. My friend said IKE was alledgedlly the sire of GO BOYS BIG SHOT. He knew Percy Moss & said, He trained Racking hosses in the 60's & 70's in Arkansas, had a son named Sonny that did too. He described Percy the same way that I've heard Marvin Wilson described. He said Percy died sometime in mid to late 70's. If he was 25ish when he won the WGC, that would put him at about 45 or 50 at death, purty young! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum You have a Very Smart friend, that is Midnight Bomb, I was thinking That 15.2 Bomb horse that Ronald Young had was by Midnight Bomb, then again he might have been by Ebony after thinking about it, wasn't his name Ebony's Midnight Bomb.As for Percy Moss i had heard the same thing Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumEbony's Midnight Bomb's maw was more than likely by Midnight Bomb. Everette & or Mason, which of Steve Hills horses did you help train? Have you ever been seriously hurt while working with horses? What men did you work with while at Steves? Did you ever come to Manchester very much? Were the walkers & cavisons valuable tools in working with the horses? Did you ever meet Billy Duncan or Dwain & Harriette Clark some of Steves longest running customers? Have you heard of EEF Hoover that bought Wilson Allen with Steve just before the old Horse died. My wife & I went to Church in Hillsboro a few Sundays ago & afterwards went to the only Cafe in Pelham & while going there, saw a Wilson Allen Lane, Thats where Mr BF Wilson lived that the old Hoss took his name from. (in this area we have roads named after Brantleys, Henry Davis & Floyd Carothers also) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum I was just a kid when my dad worked for Steve, I broke colts there when i was about 10 yrs. old and worked after school and summers until i was about 15, I remember 5 Mins. to Midnight and Talk of the Town, Spirit of Midnight and Hills Perfection, when i was a kid Manchester was a long way from home for us, went to the fair there when growing up, we moved to Steves from Mr. Brantleys when i was about 7 or 8 yrs. old.Yes Walkers and caversions were VERY Helpful when i was growning up, i do remember Billy Duncan and The Clarks, but don't remember a lot about them and also mr. Eeef HooverI went for 35 yrs. training with out getting hurt, then in 1995 a horse fell with me and messed up 2 Disc in my lower back and had to quit riding, still miss it today as much as ever Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumI think riding horses is good for muscular disorders in the back, but the spine is a different issue altogether. One of my brothers inlaw had disc surgery & it did him a world of good. But I've heard of others that it didn't help at all, maybe even made them worse. I remember my inlaw stepped over a log to retrieve his ball while playing golf & his back went out. He layed flat on his back in the bed of my truck, while I hauled him back to Woodbury from Manchester. He lost the use of one of his legs until he had the surgery. I've had some back or shoulder problems as of lately, but its better, after going to just one pillow. I also try to walk at least 2 miles per day, even when its cold, like now. I used a throw away painting mask over my nose & mouth yesterday. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum I've had 2 back Operations on L4 and L5, if i had listen to my Dr and quit riding horses after the first operation. i would not have had the 2nd one, Still hurt but with some Meds. i can function. But i can't ride anymore just scared too. Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumEverette, whoever it is, he sits a horse, sorta like Buddy Hugh, Does'nt hold his reins like Buddy though. I've seen the picture before, don't have a clue who the horse is, but my guess is, the rider is YOU. The horse actually won the Amateur Rider Not From Tennessee class at the Celebration in 1956. The rider's name is Earl McCoy and he is from Indiana. This horse was also a Ohio champion of some sort. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumEverett wrote: That is Midnight Mike, I don't remember him either, Smitty do you know anything about him I do, he was the sire of Pam Reed or Gallagers WGC pony MIkes Mighty Man & I thought I Recognized the way that guy held his reins, thats a very young Charlie BoBo, I think. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dis Remember these Horses are by Midnight Sun Fill in the Blanks Midnight s---n____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumWho's Dis Remember these Horses are by Midnight Sun Fill in the Blanks Midnight ----- I don't Know the Horse but I think the rider is JOE URQUHART? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum I think you are right on the rider, check the picture again, I put in the First and Last letter of his name ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSATIN????? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum You got it --Midnight Satin ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dat Midnights ---- Sun ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumI don't reckin I've seen this shot before, I'll guess the rider is Preach Fleming. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettIts not Preach and the picture don't say who the rider is ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumEverett I have most all TWH literature that has been published, at least I thought I did & I haven't seen this before. The Bushwhackers, from New Zealand or Australia. They only had one cap & the one outside the rope was supposed to wear it, that way they could keep up with where they were suppose to be. They wore Camo & combat boots & were extremelly MACHO, at least thats what my wife thought! Luke Williams & Butch Miller ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyThe Bushwhackers were my favorite wrasslin team. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyNow Who Dat??? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GraymareIsn't that Benvis Beachboard? I have no idea what the horse is. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumI think the rider was J.B. Smith, Looks like he won a stake class at a big show, I'll guess the horse was either Go Boys Big Shot or Suns Big Shot. This horse, in picture looks a Blue Roan & I think thats what the Go Boy Horse was. I agree the man looks sorta like Benvis, but he never won anything in that big a magnitude. My next guess would be Winston Wiser on Go Boys Souvineer. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum I think you are right, Winston and Souviner ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyThanks to Mason for the photo. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumYou'ins, Look how long Souvineers natural feet & the shoes are. There appears to be a wedge between the hoof & shoe. This would show the coming of pads in 56. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyInteresting bout the pads. I have several questions. Did the breed start out using only ONE pad? How did the pads progress? Also, had the Industry EVER had a LIMIT on number of pads that could be used? I know they had a rule on angles/wedges. That may be a stupid question, but I forget.... "Let's get down to brass tacks." By the way...... (missing image) Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdAbout pads. I know that Tennessee Rebel had two flat pads (leather) when he won the gelding WC in 1950. Other than the 50% rule that is in effect currently. I remember sometime in the early 80's they made the rule that you could have a maximum of 4" of pads. Maximum shoe thickness of 1/2". The 1" HEEL/TOE ratio has been around at least 38 years. The 1" Heel/Toe ratio was abolished for one show season as part of the interim rules that the govt. established the year Judge Gash took the pads when the trainers show was shut down. Maybe 87/88?? Eddie ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Jeanlooks like Ross Perot to me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumLooks like H Ross Perot Sr. (top) & Jr. & Hills Perfection (bot.) Big Ed, Did Bob Hughes ride Tn Rebel & did he disguise the leather pads or spacers? He was also a Farrier. I was'nt around then but I could imagine that a few started using pads & winning with them & then the whole industry going with them. Shadow won in 55 without them & with them in 56. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum its not Hills Perfection, this was before his time, these old pictures are sometimes hard to get. That is Midnight Merry Bird ,don't know the rider ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonHarold Wise is the rider ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdSadlbum, Bob Waggoner rode Rebel. He carried 5# lead in one foot and 6# in the other. With long hooves, you can hull them out real good. The purpose of the pads were to hold the lead in the hoof and to accomodate a longer shoe. They were interested in hiding the lead. Grandad told me that most horses had at least one leather very early on. It was considered a big deal when Go Boy won with a keg shoe. Eddie ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyWho da Kid? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettDo you guys remember we use to cut out blocks in the Pads to insert Mercury Blocks , never could get that to work for me ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogSMITTY - I CAN'T SEE THAT CHILD'S FACE YEAH E - I REMEMBER THOSE MERCURY BLOCK THINGS - WHO THOUGHT THEM UP? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog, i'm thinking Groover or joe webb ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumMy wife said it looks like my pictures, when I was A youngun, But I'll guess it was Jimmy "Orion" Ellis. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogYEP - THAT'S WHO IT IS - I REMEMBER SEEING THE PICTURE BEFORE - HE LOOKED A LITTLE LIKE WINKY, BUT THE PICTURE WAS TOO OLD. E - I BET YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT THE MERCURY BLOCKS - WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THAT CONCEPT NOW, IT'S REALLY KIND OF AMUSING - AIN'T IT? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog, the concept sounds like logic, the way its suppose to work, just didn'd see the right kind of results. some of them TIGHT shoulder horses wouldn't use them front legs no matter what you done ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyThat is Jimmy Ellis of Orrville, Alabama riding Merry Little Lady. Mason sent that one in. Didn't think Yall'd git it that EASY! but ya did...... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ LarryLet's see who travels and where they eat. Good guess. I think CC spent a lot of time in West Tennessee. In a phone call I learned that the plaque is now displayed outside and not as conspicuous as before. I have 8 x 10 glossies of R Heir, with Steve, Candace, Donald, & Buddy H on His Back. Candace Williams won the WGC Amatuer class with Him in 67 & Donald Paschal won the WGC with him in 68. Candace replaced Royal Heir with Go Boys Chatterbox as Her Am Mount in 68, Someone enlighten us if They won the Am WGC? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dat _______________________________________________________________________________________________ gritsIs it Juan Valdez (sp?) the coloumbian coffee dude... _______________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettGrits you got it,Its Juan himself _______________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum, I think maybe Steve DOES look a little "girlish" from the waist down. Maybe that is what turned the tide towards Candace. He was a small man, was he not? But a master horseman nonetheless. I think it would be like Hollywood Squares, except it would be called Shelbyville Squares (or something like that) I would be the host, and Everett, Mason, Bubbadog, Graymare, and all the other regulars would be the celebrities........Sadlbum would be the center square where Paul Lynde used to be. Wouldn't that be a hoot??? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Guestsmitty, I'm confused again, I thought that was what we were already doing.......... _______________________________________________________________________________________________ gritsSmitty, I think it would be great for a laugh or three, I wish we could all meet at the Celebration and put faces and personalities to this wonderful lil family. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ scooterOnce again, I'm the mysterious "guest". _______________________________________________________________________________________________ gritsScooter, stop by for a visit since your in my state. These pictures WERE taken at Jumbo Boyd stables, but Jumbo is not in any of them. I think he had already passed on at this time. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Well since a few of you out there would have only been about 3 yrs. old I will give you the answer to my question. The year was 1964 and Carbon Copy had just won the WGC.,as folks were leaving Buddy Hugh brought in Go Boys Royal Heir and put him on exhibition for all to see.He and Toby figured that was a way for alot of people to see him at one time. The announcer even talked a little about him and said that he was for sale.I was working for Buddy and Toby at the time and it is just one of those memories that you never forget. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYou might recognize the horse van in the background in the first photo. In the second photo you might recognize the person on the right, who is a stocky young fella with red hair who ha$ ridden some gooderns in his day... I'm gonna give yall one more clue. This is what that skinny little fella looks like NOW: (image missing) _______________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, Well I still don't Know who it is. The new picture is Vic Thompson on Suns Celebration. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSorry about that Smitty,i should know who that is ,but drawinG A Blank Sadlbum Its Vic, But not Sun's Celebration _______________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69E,is Vic and Jet parade? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyWell I'll be....... Here is the SIRE OF THAT BOY!: (image missing) _______________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI be Damn i put David's son on my answer above and took it off, thinking he would be to old at the time of that picture,Honestly i did,i know davids son is in a band _______________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumShadows Untouchable _______________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYes, that is Buddy Mason in both photos. The horse is Clutch's China Doll, which Buddy showed in the juvenile class I think. Also that is Kim Mason and David standing behind her on the rail. The photo was taken in 1982. I believe I was boarding at Jumbo's at that time, although I wasn't present when these photos were taken. Here is Buddy's band whose name (correct me if I'm wrong, Mason) is "OUT & RUNNIN" (image missing) _______________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettJr Its not Jet Parade _______________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogIs it Sun's Celebration? That was my first guess but I wasn't sure. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumWho's that old man, above? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog, not Suns Celebration _______________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum, Not Untouchable Its a Stud Hoss _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI have seen this photo at Mrs. Marilyn and Kathys. Could it be Senators Red Warrior or Cotton Ginner? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumShadows Headman _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Everettonehotmare, its neither one of those _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREEverett....how about King of The Alamo or Blue Eagle? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumThis picture(really a Painting after Les Nelson got thru retouching it)was probably done between 54 & 62. Cotton Ginner & King of the Alamo were from the 40's. Notice no pads or boots or swivelized shanks. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI'm trying to describe the photo to Kathy right now. She's thinks it's Shadows Headman too. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI think Sadlbum got it Everett. Shadow's Headman was a divisional two-year-old champ, according to the source and reserve two-year-old champion in 1959. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum and Onehotmare It is Shadows Headman _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARESadlbum...Is that a near hind sock or fetlock? I can't really tell. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumOneHotMare, I can't tell. Les Nelson could take a picture of a trail Horse that couldn't step over a corn cob & make it look like this Horse, after he painted in new ears, mane, tail, front & rear legs. Probably the only ligitimate untouched things are Vic & the animals torso. This Horse never made it as a big time aged Horse, reckon what happened? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREEverett...Kathy and Marilyn said to thankyou! No wonder alot of people are turned off by the performance TWH, just size up that package on the horses right front foot. The enormity of it would turn anyone off. That horse is hitting a good lick & I like it, but we still have to be concerned with John Q Public. sadlbum ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum That is a Shanked Bit With a Over check snaffle bit also ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREYou got it right Everett. Ramsey took a piece out of that bit so it would be legal and yes, they do check them. The package is also legal. That mare had to go back thru USDA during Celebration 2005 and 2007 and I'm proud to say she is USDA approved. This shot was from the 2005 International. I'm sorry if she appears to be bad image but apparently the judges didn't think so. We were reserve at this yrs Celebration and I'll take a reserve there anyday. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty......and that is "Touch My Way" and our newest member OHM driving. Ladies Fine Harness champs at the 2005 International. That's a nice lookin hoss OHM. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GraymareOHM - Both you and the horse are beautiful and very well presented. You deserved your wins and looked great in the process! The only thing that might make it better is to have "Brother Kitty" sitting in the seat beside you. Somehow, that thought makes me want to burst out loud laughing!! I can just see the expression on that cat's face!!!! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumOneHotMare, I'm sorry if you read a bad image into my comments, because I said nothing of the kind. In fact I said that "I" liked it. I meant nothing negative about the Hackemore type setup with the Bits, I'm just not familiar with it. I am concerned about the publics perception of the enormous buildups. Just take a long hard look at that Right front foot with & open mind. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everettonehotmare Tell Ramsey i said Hello, I met Ramsey back in the 60's when i was training in Brookneal Va.and he lived in Altavista Va., are you related,He was also a great Horse Trainer, put a lot of walk in all his horses, glad he don't have to ride them now, didn't Ramsey have a bad back, thats why i quit riding, i had two back operations myself, and can't ride anymore ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Who Dat?____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboyThat's Don Bell hitting a "big lick" on Judge Roy Bean[?]. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumDeltaBoy, You've got the Jockey right! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARESadlbum....I'm sorry I misinterpreted your post. I thought you were implying that her package may not be legal, but now I understand. I appreciate your kind comments, as well as the others that posted. This mare does have those draft horse size hoofs and I think the angle of the shot had alot to do with it. You should see her standing in the cross ties along with my trail horses. My spotted colt wears 00 drill techs and the other 0's, so you can imagine what a sight that is. I agree the HSUS and others will never stop until we give up the pads and chains. This industry has cleaned up it's act so much over the past few years. The compliance rate is great, horses are free going, but they continue to harass us because a few hairs are missing. I could go on and on, but this is suppose to be about trivia, so I'll shut up for now. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARERamsey said hello too! I knew ya'll were in Va at the same time and if it was in the 60's then you and he must have been about 6 or 7 at the time. haha. No, Ramsey said you and him were about the same age. Ramsey and I were married last July by Chris Bobo. Infact, we were married at Bill and Connies barn. I purchased my first TWH at Bobo's in the late 80's, but I never dreamed that oneday I would be marrying Ramsey there. I'm sure it surprised everyone else in the horse world, as well. Ramsey had one back surgery but his main problem is arthritis. The riding didn't bother him as much as the constant getting up and down and working on feet. Ofcourse now the trainers have to spend as much time keeping the feet clean as they do in the saddle. I honestly don't know how the older guys do it. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ cbSheila, it was a honor for Bill and I to stand up with you and Ramsey. It was such a lovely day for a beautiful wedding. What a pleasure it was for us to have your wedding behind the barn near the riding ring with all the flowers and trees.....the mares nearby in the pasture...it all seemed so appropriate and so lovely. Bill and I love you both and wish you the very best life has to offer. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettCongats Sheila Ramsey is a good one, we have been friends since the 60's althought i haven't seen him in years , always had a lot of respect for him as a person and a fellow trainer. When I have first met ramsey i seen him take just an average horse and turn it into a top horse and whoop the daylights out of everyone, then he started getting some Good stock to work then he Really whooped up on everybody. Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumOneHotMare, I've just read Your last post & I also hope that We understand & appreciate one another. I do respect Yours & Everyone on Heres feelings. Sometimes on this Blog with so few People, things tend to get to be a stalemate. No comments & no dialogue. I don't know You & I thought the Mare looked fine. I wanted to comment & struggled with something to say. Sometimes I say things, that I regret 5 minutes later, I said something the other day concerning Masons that I regret. I have been around the spectator side of the TW Performance Horse since the mid 60's & I totally agree, great strides have been made by the Trainers in presenting a more sound animal. With that said, Lets continue to enjoy Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREAmen to that Sadlbum! I'm sure Mason will forgive you, just take him out to dinner one night. lol ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbum OneHotMare, They fed Me one of the best Lunches (Dinner) at Their House, awhile back, that I can ever remember having. Yes........Comin Yonder is one I remember with Bob Cherry in the saddle. I do believe that you MAY be correck! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI Braced his tail that year at the celebration, he had a crooked tail bone and hard to brace, but a walking son of a gun,i'm thinking Mizzous Threat was his Reg. Name, Albert was showing him under Threats Cold Sweat and the Breeders said he had to show him under his Reg. Name, are thats what i remember that happening Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI believe you are correct Everett. Has anyone seen the photo of Mizzou's Threat & Ebony's True Grit side by side and step for step??? Never have seen this since that time. I remember that so well, even though I was just a kid and that was my first Celebration. Too bad Mizzou broke......... The picture is Bob Cherry on Tiger Bay [I think]. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everettdeltaboy you are right, Tiger Bay and Bob Cherry ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty...now WHO DAT? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ cbIt looks like Mason and the horse looks very familar . ____________________________________________________________________________________________ makethecutIs the picture Mason up on Copyrite? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyDidn't take you folks long to get that one. I thought this one might be tough, since Copy's Night Train & Double Clutch could easily be confused for this one. I think this was the horse Paula Potter showed if my memory is working today. Mason, why did Paula quit showing? Also, didn't Scott have a brother named Mitch? Seems like he may have shown a little as well?? Also, didn't a girl named Lisa show Night Train out of your barn. I think I met her once't. ......and what kind of hat are you wearing in that photo?? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogConnie - I used to know Randall well - I'm sending a prayer for his recover. That is a shame. What about Renita? Do you know where she is? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonPaula did show COPY RITE.won a Juv class at THE Celebration..Paula is married and lives in Lexington. Mitch is the oldest...he and his baby bro Tom are in the mine business I think..also think they do some building?...Mitch also has some kind of business in Lexington...I think maybe sells 4 wheelers,etc...its near Man Of War Blvd I THINK...they ALL showed when they were young but lost the desire as they grew up and got interested in other things. Lisa Bowman Showed Copys Night train.... And the HAT? Just another silly thing I have done in my life....it was called a Gambler Hat....Looks kinda Silly now doesnt it?I've got an ole picture of Copy rite, that HAT and I winning a class at Montgomery Ala somewhere around here...I look like I just got out of jail. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumMason, I think the hat was COOL! I also like the way You're reared back like Your somebody. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ cbBubbadog, Renita lives in Franklin. I dont go anymore but do see pictures now and then..I just cant believe how MOST of those fellers ride ..they hump up like the they are trying to hide ...taint the way I came up... part of showing was trying to make the horse look good by the way you sat in the saddle...if I were an owner nowdays I'd HUNT til I found someone who tried to SHOW a horse to his best advantage...but I dont believe many of them know the difference....Time changes everything..I see that the older I get Mason ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyMason, I like the HAT too!! Yo allus wuz ahead a yo time! __________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogMason I remember you showing in that hat - I considered you quite fetching! And you right - I hadn't thought about it before but they ARE all scrunched down like they're trying to be invisible. I would have a hard time paying someone to train my horse that looked like a blob in the saddle. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumEverett, That pictures from a Joe Webb book, right? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69I know what your saying David.I feel the same way.One of my first owners that help bring me up was Red Gochneur. He told me something along time ago that I've never forgotten."If you want to sell a $100,000.00 horse you gotta look like a $100,000.00 man".That is just the way Red did business. My theory is you've got to at least look like a professional. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69E,isn't that Dr.Porter Rogers and ole Perfection. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum and Senator69 That is Dr. P. Rodgers and R. Perfection, ya'll just too good ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI may be wrong, but I don't think Mason was the only one to wear that style of hat, although he may have been the first or one of the first. I seem to remember Ron Curkendall, Bennie Johnson & maybe one of the Carters from East Tenn wearing a similar style hat. Mike Oppenheimer has also worn some different style hats as well I think, although I'm not sure about Mose. I also have seen that style worn up here in Ky by some Racking Horse folks. I could be wrong, because all I have left to work with is FADED MEMORIES.....??? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogMemories - misty water - colored memories - of the WAY WE WERE - didn't it all seem so simple then ----------------------ya'll - join in - SING! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty.....where's my kleenex?.......(sniff!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-KPGh3wysw __________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdThere was a bunch of us who got hats like Masons one year. I think around 1980. We bought them at a store close to Pope's Cafe. I showed in mine some and thought it really looked cool. I was training 3 horses for Tom and Fran Gorsuch at the time and Fran told me that if I wore that hat while showing her horse, she would kick my butt. Eddie ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonEd reckin we otta have one big yardsale?I bet these Shell'vul Mexicans would like lots of the stuff we THOUGHT was SO cool ...back in tha day! Mason ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboyThe name of that store would be the answer to a good trivia question. The store has been closed for several years & the building is empty. I hadn't been on the Shelbyville square in many years until last summer. I noticed that they had a rather run-down display of Walking Horse pictures in the display window of Tip Thompson's. Included was a painting of Toby Green on Spur's Summer Dream. I'm sure it was based on the picture that was posted here recently. By the way, Sadlbum asked recently who the owner of Shelby Pines Stables was. It was Toby Green. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonDeltaboy I thought you were talking about the NAME of our Yard Sale...its hard for me to keep my mind on but one thing at a time...Tip Thompsons RIGHT... ALSO I THINK POPES is closed???Anyone know for sure? Janet and I went in there sometime last yr for breakfast..there was SO MUCH smoke we couldnt wait to get outside,,that was before the NO SMOKE ban in Tn....MAYBE ALL their regulars smoked and when that passed they closed up shop?ALL the workers seemed to smoke ... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyPOPE'S CLOSED??? say it ain't so, mister........ __________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumYall, I like the picture of the square, Musta been taken about the time the Cel started, see the Dixie Hotel to the left of Popes. The Dixie Hotels Blue Ribbon magazines are at the Shel Library. Ralph Waldo Emerson ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonThats heavy Bro ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogHey ya'll - my internet has been kaput this afternoon - I would have been able to answer after Mason threw the "Cuz" clue out. Over the years, I had horses with many different trainers but I'm going to have to say that Wallace is the most entertaining of the bunch. He was constantly doing something to bring a smile - flying through the barn in that golf cart, or riding old Aristocrat like he was actually going somewhere - on rainy days he would hang beer cans in the rafters to mark leaks (he intended to have fixed) in the barn roof - but if he caught you putting more than 4 sets of leg wraps in the wringer washer, he could get kind of testy! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dat Sadlbum and Mason you already know ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Bubbadogi know the rider - paul smith ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog You got the RIDER right, I broke this horse when he was a yearling, i was working for Jack Montgomery at the old Winston Wiser Barn when i was around 16 or 17, was a REAL Nice horse. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Dont rightly know.............Who Dat??? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonSadlebum will have to tell you who that is...THINGS SURE WERE FUZZY BACK THEN werent they? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonWhen my oldest grandson was small Janet was telling him about something that had happened when she was a little girl......and Brian said Mimi "Was that BACK WHEN THINGS WERE BLACK & WHITE ?"
