| (Page 21)SadlbumWhat about it being Ray Holders sister? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonYou are tryin so hard I'm gonna relieve yo pain!...I dont KNOW whos sister it is but her name was NANCY Stubblefield...I dont remember her...Dougs wife was Marcella(spell CK) I am going to call Harold Dean he might know ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogWho ever it is - sho is cute. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonYou are tryin so hard I'm gonna relieve yo pain!...I dont KNOW whos sister it is but her name was NANCY Stubblefield...I dont remember her...Dougs wife was Marcella(spell CK) I am going to call Harold Dean he might know Harold said Dougs wife was NOT named Marcella...but there was a lady up there that had horses in training with Possum by that name....HD is going to ck out what he can find out about NANCY in 47-50 Blue Ribbons ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyWho is Dat? (I mean anyone ever heard of this stud horse?) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonJust talked to Harold Dean for about an Hr....ALL I know now is the back of the picture said NANCY STUBBLEFIELD...thats about it...DELTABOY dont you have some clues? We could NOT find NANCY in any of the pony classes at the BIG Celebration back in the late 40s -early 50s. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumEverett, Thats Wink & Ebonys Black Market, owned by Dr. Harold McIver of Jackson Tennycee. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumMason, I was looking at a 56 BR today & there was on page 17 an ad for the Murray Farm sale. On this ad was a picture about 1 1/2 inches square of a young blonde lady by the name of Mrs Doug Stubblefield,She was riding a black horse. She could have been about 22 & if you rolled back the calender to 48 then that would have put her at 14 on the spotted pony. The pony picture could have been labeled years after the picture was taken. That could be why theres no Nancy Stubblefield listed in the pony classes, because her maiden name would be different. I hope that this deduction makes sense. I have Dougs obituary somewhere & it says he died at the Coffee Co. hospital in Manchester & He wasn't very old. He was one of the trainers of Midnight Secret. I have found a Nancy Tom Leeper of Knoxville in the 48, 3 gaited pony class. A Norman Stokes won the 47 Colored Grooms class on Strolling Jim. Remember that stone. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum You are Correct ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogSadlbum, looks like you are doing some serious research. I have an image in my mind of you surrounded by stacks and piles and boxes of books and magazines. I'm learning a lot - thanks for all of your effort. How come you don't write a book? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumBubbadog, Thanks for the very kind comments. I wouldn't have room for another book & You would be surprised at how few People are interested in this stuff. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyGood...... I hate big crowds! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonThis picture had Nancy Stubblefield on Winning Pony on a little yellowed piece of paper taped with old browned scotch tape stuck to the back... Its bugging me WHO she was....SOMEBODY in this world knows ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyMason, Perhaps some clues can be found at this link: http://histpres.mtsu.edu/centfarms/bedford_county/index.html#O._D._Stubblefield_Farm____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI still have a '56 program but not a BR. There is a Nancy B. Stubblefield and Nancy Stubblefield, listed as rider on a couple. Her entry numbers coincide with Doug Stubblefields. I will call Marilyn Thompson in the morning to see if she remembers her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonInteresting readin but no Cigar? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty"After O.D. died in 1987, his son Dwight Stubblefield and his wife acquired the farm. Today, Dwight, his wife, Anne and their children raise horses and beef cattle on the farm." Call Dwight & Anne! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboy Mason, I don't think I can help much with this. I do remember Marcelle Stubblefield from McMinnville. Bought a plantation horse from her one time. The main thing I remember was that the horse was a bad hauler. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty I found a Nancy Stubblefield in McMinnville.... Marie & Nancy M Stubblefield 158 Crestview Dr Mc Minnville, TN 37110-3630 (931) 668-4869 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonI'd bet you are on the trail of THE NANCY STUBBLEFIELD we are looking for...Make that call and see if Mrs Thompson remembers her. THANKS ____________________________________________________________________________________________ cbThere is a Nancy Stubblefield that works at MTSU in Murfreesboro. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREMason...Mrs. Marilyn is pretty certain Nancy was Dougs spouse but that's all she remembers. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREMason...I just spoke with the former Martha Pennington (now Shaneyfelt) and she said Nancy was married to Doug. Ms. Martha remembers Nancy showing but not her maiden name. She and Mr. William will try to figure this out. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonThanks Sadlebum has found ANOTHER picture of her a few yrs later ...we will try and post it Mason ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69OHM,tell Martha and William Jr. Cottle said "HEY".They are friends of mine.Thanks. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyWho is the "Mystery Lady" ??? NEWS FLASH "S & M Investigations" has unearthed the following photos and think the probabability is HIGH that the woman on the spotted pony is indeed the same lady in these photos: MORE as this story unfolds! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogIs it Jackie McConnell on Threat's Black Power? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdJackie and Threats Black Power Eddie ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty The only walking horse I've ever seen that could go 70 m.p.h. SIDEWAYS!!! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettHey ya'll all right ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonI thought I was the only one that had noticed that? So it wasnt just me that thought that? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogGood eye everybody! He did have him a STRANGE way of going didn't he? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Seems like there was a certain part of the West (?) grandstand that liked SPEED and would get all excited when Black Power came ra.....I mean flying down the rail. I THINK maybe that was the Alabama section??? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty(image missing) so.........Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, Dat wud be Lucille Ball & Vivian Vance wif old SHEP! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumMason, I called the number on this thread for Nancy Stubblefield & they didn't know Doug. I called Russell Pate & He only remembered that she was a Doll. He said Wallace should Know. I looked in the 50 BR & a Nancy Bragg from McMinnville placed 10th in the pony class in 49 on Liberty Bell. Now the little pony favored Miss Liberty but this could still be a coincidence. In the 51 BR Doug was in Jackson managing a barn, but he looked very young. Why don't we keep working on this & jawing about it until I can talk to old Cuz at the Sandcreek sale on Saturday, that is if Smitty don't Gong us. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI won't Gong ye..........but watch out for Chuck & Jaye P. Morgan.... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, Boy you must have ESP! How in the world did you come up with that, that fast? | |

Chek Yall out tomar. bye ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREJunior...William and Martha said hello! As for the mystery woman, they said she WAS Nancy Bragg and very pretty. Also, think she showed out of Sam Paschals barn, before she married Doug. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69 OHM,Thanks for doing that for me.We have been friends for yrs. since Martha was married to Marvin. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonYes Keep goin.... we wont stop the investigation until we are satisfied WHO Nancy was..... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty In the meantime.... Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ cbNancy Stubblefield Bragg Is At MTSU On The Staff.................. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Bubbadog What ya'll going to do now that you have found her? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbum Confused Bloggers, Don't Yall see that We still have a tangled up mess! One just said Her Maiden name was Bragg & Immediatelly One says Her maiden Name is Stubblefield. So we's gonna have to delve into & discuss this more intenselly. I don't know if S & M investigations has the manpower & resources to absorb the enormity of this here case if it keeps on dragging out, but I do think that We sorta see the light at tha end of the tunnel. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbum Who Dat? That there horse & rider, I think are Steve Hill & Hills Wilson Allen ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum, I think that's Merry Wilson............??? ....now I'm confused..... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Bubbadog wrote: What ya'll going to do now that you have found her? ......tell her she's been RESCUED!!! .......and invite her to join us here and tell her story! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI think Connie is referring to the Bragg Bldg on the MTSU campus, but I may be wrong. It was named after former state Rep John Bragg, as well as the Woodbury Hwy. I am sure this is the same Nancy Bragg, you found in the old show records. If Ms. Martha and Mr. William say it was, then it was. I have the utmost confidence in S&M INVESTIGATIONS. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ cb Mass Communication Nancy Stubblefield Bragg 615-904-8154 Fax 615-898-4698 nstubble@mtsu.edu____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyConnie, Thanks for the info. F-11 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty deltaboy, Buford L. F-11 is RIGHT! Sired by the original Grey John, he reportedly was a cross between a Copperbottom and a Hal. One of the very early foundation horses. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyWho Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSmitty need a clue on the horse above ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty He was not a world champion of any kind, but is closely related to a WGC. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI should know , i was thinking Midnight Ike, after looking i don't think so ____________________________________________________________________________________________ RW That's Super Sport who I believe is a full brother to Super Stock. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYOU!! Where you been? (you R right RW) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ RW It's me. I've forgotten my username and password to log in. Who was it that said getting older wasn't for sissie's? Super Sport was a beautiful horse and had such a gentle spirit about him. Ronnie Vincent had him standing out of Jimmie and Glenda Combs' barn in Alvaton, KY when we had a horse there. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI think that was Burgess Meredith who said that in "Grumpy Old Men"...... Was Super Sport a good show horse? Did he ever win anything? Did he produce anything? Don't know, just curious (???)........... by the way, RW.... (image missing) Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ rwitherington1That's the man himself, Ronnie Vincent. Did you ever know his assistant trainer in Alvaton, Randy Rhea? Ronnie taught Randy in high school and then hired him to train with him. They were two peas in a pod. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyOh yes, Oh yes..... I knew Randy and his wife Connie too. Much fun. I remember Randy got on that CMT game show "Fandango" which was a country version of "Name That Tune." We all gathered and watched it up at Ronnie & Kathy's house. Randy ran out on stage with a lot of pep and energy and we just knew he was gonna win it all. He answered the first question right off the bat and was off to a great start. Something happened after that though.........he got a glazed, deer in the headlights look on his face and never answered another question the rest of the show. We were dismayed! Randy said later that he got to looking out at the audience and developed a bad case of stage shock! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69 E,I'm gonna take a guess but I don't think I'm right I'm gonna say Steve Hill and Spirit of Midnight. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettJr, that is Steve but not Spirit, this horse was by a horse that Steve was standing at stud ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboyEverett, Is that Eldorado's Big Star? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everettdeltaboy, that is Big Star, i had seen him a time or two when he could have won it all ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Who Dat'n? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI don't know, but he's proud of that trophy

Hint: he beat some very famous horses in his day... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, I'm glad that I got on here before that old Deltaboy, because He could answer this too. That is Billy Mason who at the time was Buck Brannans son inlaw the owner & He is aboard Old Wilsons Ace. They were at Elm Grove Farm in Belvidere Tn & Franklin Co. After divorcing the Brannan Gal, Billy ended up with a tractor dealorship in Winchester. He died about 4 years ago. Old Wilsons Ace had stints at the Murray farm in Lewisburg, Wilson farm in Galatin & in Mansfield Ohio, where Charles Lowery was for awhile. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum, I knew you would nail that one down. That's Wilson's Ace, perhaps one of the best horses that never won the big one or got their due. We have had that picture posted on here before. The current picture is from a collage of past winners in a newer Blue Ribbon, I think. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum, That pony is Walking Dream and she was the 1940 & 1941 Walking Pony 58" & Under World Champion. I had never visited a high profile Tenn training barn before and was quite shy and wide-eyed. I remember just trying to stay out of the way. Nobody paid me much mind or spoke to me, but Charlie looked my way and gave me a wink. That has stuck in my mind all these years and made a positive impression on me. Just a good horse, nothing great. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI think he won Belfast one year, and a lot of folks came back raving about him as the "next great thang." (ain't we all heard that one so many times?) Anyhow, I was a little disapointed the first time I laid eyes on him. But he was exciting and did sit up and wave those legs and the crowd obviously liked him. At the time of the picture he was owned by P.K. Fisher of Soudertown Pa. He later became Trigger Junior. He was raised by Oscar C.O. Barker of Readyville near Woodbury Tn. This horse can be found as the sire on some papers. The real Trigger was not a Walking Horse & I have a Video where Roy said that Trigger never bred a mare because they didn't want Him Studdy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumEverett, Mack K's I Millionaire ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty I knew you would know that one Sadlbum. Who was Pats trainer? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, I'm strictlly guessing that to be Shadows King Cotton & Mrs C.M. Waters. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYep! now Who Dis? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumMy wild guess is Mister Wilson's Major but I don't know the rider. To be honest, I can't see it even with my bifocals on and I don't want to go get my magnifying glass. Whoever it is, it's a good horse. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum i was thinking Steve Hill and Sam Paschal had horses for Mr. Kimbrough ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumThanks Everett ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, Your last picture might have been Shirley Sharpe & Hills Perfection. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyThe name of the horse is "Sabre's Rocket." Don't know the rider. I remember one called "Sabre's Jet" I think, but not this one. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogIs it Carolyn Wisner? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI found the name of the rider of Sabre's Rocket. It is Mrs. R.S. Barnwell Jr. up from Shreveport La. That picture was on the cover of Saddle & Bridle, July, 1967. Some of the other Walking Horses pictures include: The Entertainer, Rodger's Perfectin, Carbon Copy and Shadow's Red Warrior. The photo above, of Shadow's King Cotton was on the cover of Saddle & Bridle, July, 1966. Some of the Walking Horses pictures include: Mark's Sundust, Jolly Roger, Waltzing Matilda, Our Masterpiece, Lady Godiva and Mr. Executive. My, it was a different day when Walking Horses & Saddlebreds SHARED the same magazine, and from what I hear from that era, Saddle & Bridle was quite popular. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Huh? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogAnother Masterpiece? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYes, that's Another Masterpiece. A horse I would have liked to have seen. He won it the year before I attended my first Celebration. I've always heard he was big & beautiful, and he appears to be just that, as shown here: ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat One ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogKevin Gower and Pushover ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog, you right again girl ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, I'm not trying to be smart, but You can't Judge a Horse by a touched up picture. In my opinion Another Masterpiece was just a cut above Shakers Shocker. But others might remember Him as being a whole lot better. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI agree, you can't judge one by the photo and Pruett could make a sorry one look great. I have to disagree on ANOTHER MASTERPIECE, alot better hoss than SHOCKER. JMHO

| (Page 29)smitty Sadlbum, I agree that is one of the phoniest pictures I've ever seen. I can't say whether Another Masterpiece was good, average or poor because I never saw him. All I said was he was big & pretty and I would have liked to have seen him. Here is a quote on him from Walker's West: " He was considered by veteran horse show observers to be one of the breed's most natural horses." (???) Come to think of it, maybe I did see his retirement, but I was young and don't remember much. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettAnother Masterpiece was a Good horse, Big High Headed plenty of front end and good behind and a pretty horse to be as Big as he was, that picture of him is like all the rest of em touched up a little and a MUCH better horse than Shocker ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI'm going to say that is Tom Bass riding Rex McDonald.... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettAfraid not ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Marvin Wilson on Black Rhythm or Black Southern Aire.I can't remember which. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSenator69 You are right, thats Marvin on Black Rythm ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Hey E,talk about touch up,ole Paulette could get down .Some of the pictures were really out there. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty (image misssing) Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, That ones easy, Steve Hill & Talk of the Town! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumStudents, Weren't there 2 Paulettes, Ralph & Shirley? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Talk Of The Town is right! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumEverett, I think that is Knial Kissee's WGC, a Merry Boy mare that Fannie Bramblet raised & being ridden by Bobby, Steve & Ray's Pappy; NUB. She had also been owned by Laura Lou's Mama & Jimmy ORION's Daddy. I also need to mention Her WGC rider was Judy, Eddie & Bobby's Daddy, who had the same first name as Winkies Daddy has. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum You be right, its all those peoples and Black Angle and SW ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty(image missing) Who Dat? I think he said he was from the Murfreesborough area. Mason said... "I doubt anyone except MAYBE Everett will know him...MAYBE Cissy. Ellis Waggoner was the trainer there at Brownview(between my place in Rockvale and M'boro) A first class operation." ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI remember he could show a Saddlebred and i do remember Ellis also a good Gaited trainer ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ JeanLooks like Joe Fleming & True Grit ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettJean you are right , thats Joe and True Grit ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GraymareI remember Bobby Brown. His family built the the Waggoners a house across the road from the farm. I thought that was the greatest thing ever! It was a really nice house and the whole operation was out in the country. Now it is VERY MUCH in the city. The main training barn burned some years ago but they replaced it with a little barn. I can't remember who lives there now. I used to know. Mason, is it the Harrisons? The main house is still a pretty place. Did someone say that Bobby wound up somewhere up East? And, yes, he could certainly show a Saddlebred!! I always enjoyed, and still miss, the days when there was a mixture of Saddlebreds and Walking Horses at the shows. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat Young Fella ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREJust a wild guess, one of the Beechs or Jimmy Ellis. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettOHM that is Jimmy Ellis, that boy could sing as well as ride ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty(image missing) Whozat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Looks like dats Brent Grider to me.I don't know who he might be ridin though. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySenator69, You're right, that's Brent Grider & Witch Revival 2006 World Champion Three-Year-Old Mare Division A A more recent photo for Whodat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Brent is a really good young trainer.I like the way he puts one in the ring. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonGraymare wrote: I remember Bobby Brown. | (Page 30)ONEHOTMARESmitty...I have also heard it was a mare. I'm still not sure where this horse originated. I thought it was around Cannon or Coffee County TN, but some say NC. Hopefully, S&M INVESTIGATIONS will know the REAL story. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonI'd be AFRAID to touch that ...the TWH Mafia might get involved...but IF you want my OPINION Id venture to say this spotted thAng is why Blood Typing came into being.MOST of them have got spotted Shetland blood and most of it came out of Cannon County....now you didnt hear it from me! Mason ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyThe horse I am speaking of came out of Giles County..... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI don't have a clue, however I believe Mason's theory is correct. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumThat's Toby Green (but not THE Toby Green) and Sandy Sun Sally. She's the grandmammy of Paint the Town. This Toby is Charlie Green's granddaddy. Sally was from Giles County. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum, I was waiting for your reply, and you are right about Sandy's Sun Sally and Toby Green from Giles County. The horse pictured was her dam, Nell Overstreet and her owner Melvin Overstreet. Nell Overstreet was accepted into the TWH registry based on her ability to produce get that performed the walking horse gait. Several Notes: First, I know nothing.....still learning!.......but this is stuff I have found elsewhere and I cannot verify it's validity. Also, when I say "spotted" I am referring to the "Tobiano" pattern. Here is an excerpt taken off another site: In the early days of the TWHBEA, there were probably several Tobiano horses accepted when the registry was open, as there were no restrictions as to a horse's color or it's markings. However, since the tobiano horses were not popular during the 40's through the 70's, the tobiano marked horses almost died out except for one breeder, the late Toby Green of Giles County, Tennessee, and his mare: Sandy Sun's Sally. There were no safeguards built into the TWHBEA registry system prior to 1989, and several tobiano marked horses were accepted into the registry. These horses have been "grandfathered" into the Tennessee Walking Horse registry, and are now accepted as registered TWHs. However, their tobiano markings are from unknown parentage! Verified by TWH pedigree research, Sandy Sun's Sally is the only Tobiano TWH who has passed the tobiano markings down through the generations, (in each generation) with progeny alive today, making Sandy Sun's Sally virtually: The Foundation Tobiano Tennessee Walking Horse ! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumDoes Nell Overstreet have an X before the numbers on her registration? (Example: X-393) The X means the horse was accepted on her gait or production, rather than her pedigree. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum, I see no X on her "online" pedigree, but I can tell you this: She was by Walkin George who was by Bramlett by Buford L. , but there is nothing on her dam side. UNKNOWN. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREGlad ya'll figured this out. So this Toby, is actually Ron's father and the grandpa to Charlie and Jeff? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty(image missing) Who Dis? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Willie Cook,Jr. and Ironworks ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumONEHOTMARE, Yes ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARESADLBUM....Thanks for the clarification. Some of ours have many UNKNOWN'S on their papers. I guess it doesn't matter as long as they are good trail horses. To tell you the truth, my oldest trail horse and the best one (not much to look at) was never registered, but at one time he was a Cannon County deluxe. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREJoyce Myers still has IRONWORKS foretop, on display in her home. The best one is Ellen still has THE SHOCKING BLUE'S bones and also his foretop. I'm not making this up! After the McJunkins sold the Tx barn, where SHOCKING BLUE was buried, Ellen had them dig up his remains and she brought them (what was left) to TN. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyOh My! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, Back in the mid 80's I sold Jim Gandy (showed Shocking Blue) a complete collection of the Blue Ribbon yr books. He passed away a while after that & I've always wondered what happened to those books. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittySadlbum, I'd sure like to have those books! Who Dat? Hint: One of those most important mares EVER. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREOnly one I can think of would be REGRET. Long before RUFFIAN or GENUINE RISK. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREThis reminds me of when I had quarter horses at the old Solitude Farm. Mr. HL had been gone for many yrs, seems like he passed on during the mid 60's (some of you will know). His son Lee (now deceased) rented the place to one of my qtr horse trainers for many years. At that time every thing was just as Mr. Worrell had left it. One day they decide to clean out all the WH (head shakers they use to say) memorabilia and I was there. I explained to them this was not JUNK and it should not go to the dump,(now landfill but still a dump where I come from). Lee gave me permission to take whatever I wanted. I had planned to pick up a load that weekend but had to work instead. Ofcourse that's when they held the barn cleaning. It makes me sick to think about it. Wish I had known SADLBUM and MASON then, bet they would have driven to Goodlettsville that night! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyDoes "Merry Legs" ring a bell??? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty (image missing) Now Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdWink on something with poorly dyed back legs. It's sickening to hear tales of people throwing away good stuff. I just hope Someone that appreciates TWH history has Jim Gandy's books. I have driven to Knoxville, Signal Mountain, Ardmore etc. to buy stuff. In the past I have bought big Lots of stuff, kept what I didn't already have & sold or traded the rest. I have about all thats ever been printed concerning the TWH. I lack a few of the one night Cel programs from the early 40's & about a doz of the Voice & about 6 Murray Farm sale catalogs from the 40's having all pertinent matl. I have very little that was given to me. I can recall a very fine Gentleman that did give me a few things one time & that was Bobby Shannon. Others have given Me a few things for which I am also grateful. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARETHE "Merry Legs" was really a race horse? I don't know what horse Wink is on either. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyOHM, Merry Legs was one of the very early horses bred by Albert Dement. She was by Allan F-1 if I'm not mistaken. As for Wink's horse......that was taken in 2001 at Belfast. The name of the horse was Billie White Socks. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumOHM & Smitty, The TWH Merry Legs F4 was out of Nell Dement F3 & by Allan F1. If my memory is correct, there was a Merry Legs in the Black Beauty book. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARESADLBUM...Sounds like you got more stuff than The Library of Congress. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyHappy Friday everyone! I saw plenty of great horses last week, best trainers show they have had in many yrs. Several showed in Cullman last night and that must have hurt this show. Not to mention USDA hit this show in the 'Boro, last yr. Looks like some of the classes are pretty small tonight. Ramsey doesn't go to many shows now, except Celebration and a few of the bigger ones. Mason ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdMason, I first thought it was a picture of Buddy Kirby. His feet were always toed out like this picture when he rode. But I really liked that Cricket horse and you were my next guess because of the way he set up in this picture. "After Watergate, Thompson took up private practice in Nashville but returned to the state political limelight in 1977 when Marie Ragghianti, the recently dismissed chair of the State Parole Board, asked Thompson to serve as her counsel in a lawsuit against the administration. Supported by Thompson and his staff's legal work, Ragghianti provided testimony that brought to light a scandalous cash-for-clemency system within the administration of Governor Ray Blanton. The scandal eventually helped to force Blanton from office and led to the successful prosecution of several Blanton aides. A portion of the story of the pardons scandal was made into a book, Marie : A True Story by Peter Maas, author of Serpico, and eventually made into the motion picture Marie starring Sissy Spacek in the title role of Board of Pardons and Paroles Board head Marie Ragghianti. Attorney and future U.S. Senator Thompson launched his acting career in this picture, portraying himself. " ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty(image missing) Who Dey? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, Thanks for correcting Me on the Ray Blanton & Fred Thompson history. This came from a Celebration fold out that they sent to remind You it was getting time to think about buying tickets. I think it was from the 70's. I scrolled back up & looked again & I believe that was at the sale of Champions down the street from the Cel. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69The larger fellow could be J.L. Bill and I had the pleasure a few years back of seeing that barn. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettIs that ole barn home of Wilson Allen ? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyEverett, That's B. F. Wilson's barn at Pelham, Tenn., where Wilson Allen was raised. How in the world did you know that? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSmitty A little bird told me ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat Hoss and Rider ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BigEdLooks like Steve Hill, not sure about the horse. I think the guy in front of the horse resembles Joe Fleming, but Ramsey says not. Old Copy did have nice ears though. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumHis Grandaddy could have been in a spagetti western. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogI think that you just gave it away didn't you - True Grit? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARETRUE GRIT had a star. I don't see one on this colt. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumIt ain't True Grit or Midnight Sun. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettSadlbum What the Hell is a Speggati movie ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumIt's them CHEAP westerns made in Italy (think about some of Clint Eastwood's early ones) where the lips and the words don't match. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GuestI think "Spaghetti" western is the name for "westerns" made in Italy on lower budgets than their counter-parts shot in the US. Some Clint Eastwood films come to mind, e.g.,"The G., The B. and The U. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboyThose are "Go Boy" ears. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumDeltaBoy, You sho is sharp, Now name that COLT! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboyMGB ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumDeltaBoy, Yes that was Merry Go Boy as a weanling. It was in a 1948 Southern Horseman. In about 1965 one of these magazines was given to Me. I kept it until I bought a whole set, hard bound. Then I traded the single magazine to Harold Dean Givens for some Jimmy Joe Murray magazines. Later I sold the hard bounds to Russell & Dickie Pate, because their Mother was the managing editor & they didn't have any. A couple of years ago I replaced the 48 by buying it on Ebay. Go Boys Maternal GrandSire was Giovanni an ASB registered with the TWHBA. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREWho raised MERRY GO BOY? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonWinston Wisers Brother Archie I think raised him ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREThat is correct, Mason. Just located one of my TWH encyclopedia's. It states MGB bred by: Archie Wiser- Wartrace, TN. Dam: Wiser's Dimples. Also says, in years prior to winning the '47 WGC, MGB had been named weanling horse colt WC, yearling WC, 2 yr old stallion WC, 3 yr old stallion & gelding WC, junior stake WC and RES WGC, a remarkable record. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumThe new Who Dat? Hint that will cover the rider & horse! "4WD Duck" Mason & OHM, Yesterday on Trivia, I told about Archie raising a future WGC as a hint. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREWhat in tarnation is that? A four wheel drive duck? Did "ARCHIE" have something to do with an Eastwood film? I'm very confused ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyAllow me to translate for Sadlbum. I think what he is saying is this: Hint: The gray horse above comes in 4-wheel drive..... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonThe Jeep? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumMason, Your on the right track & going in the right direction on de hoss. The Rider is the first of 3 generations of trainers from west Tn. What do a duck do when he walks wif dem leetle short lags & webb feets? Iffen yall can recollect back yonder sometime ago, someone wanted a list of horses names relating to automobiles. I listed this un & some other one doubted me, now hears prufe! Dis here mans fust 2 initials wud be gud to drank wif a moon pie. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettR.C. Waddell ? Dad of Jimmy Waddell and Grandfather of Dan Waddell ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyThe Jeep is correct. Don't know the rider, but I'll let Sadlbum inform us on that. Let's move on.... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Who Dis? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbum Everett, You are absolutely correct on the Waddells. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARE That looks like Billy Carter, yr he showed in the Celebration celeb's class. Ya'll think Ole Billy was drankin that night? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty OHM, You're right on the money. I think the year was 1984. I think Ole Billy might might have a "3-pack of BB" in each pocket ??? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI got it now, 4WD DUCK. The horse was named THE JEEP and that's R.C. Waddell. Looks like 1940 something on the photo. Pretty sure THE JEEP was the only all terrain or 4 wd vehicle manufactured in the US back then. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREHe could have easily hooked some of those big insulated saddle bags on that western saddle and carried several cans of BILLY BEER. Not to mention they would have stayed COLD. I do remember the class, but not the year. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREThat is the great #3. He was also in the Celebration celebs class. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbum Smitty et al, Thats My picture & honest I thought the picture of the first Brother was Tom T Hall. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonI thought the same thAng..or SIR ELTON JOHN? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI do remember Tom T. Hall being in that class, as well. Mason, I don't think Sir Elton John ever made it to the great Celebration but the ensemble does remind you of him. S&M INVESTIGATIONS may be right. I also recall George Foreman and Lynn Anderson showing in the celebs class. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyOHM, That's #3 alright, Dale Earnhardt himself, riding at the Celebration. Billy Carter looks kind of subdued doesn't he? I guess everyone is used to him looking like this: ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat Fella and Hoss ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogWell that would be Mason - is that at Murfreesboro? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog That could be mason, but whats thats hoss's name ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyThat is The Super Stock at Louisville, Ky......I think? I believe Mason said this was when he was a three-year-old? I don't ever remember an outdoor show at Louisville. Was this at the fairgrounds? Fill me in Mason... | |

Who Dey? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonYes it was at the Fairgrounds in L'ville..beside the interstate, near the barns...we went several yrs ..always a good one..I won the two yr old one yr with Stock and the three yr old the next yr..I think this was the three yr old picture ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREIf I'm correct, STOCK was also a 3 yr old WC. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyand Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty et al, That white boys Daddy was Guv when the Cel fust started! He also had the guts to go against His Dem party on gun control. The white suited fellers farm is named "Fox Hollow" All of the black mans kids have the same fust name. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogJim Cooper George Foreman Tom T Hall ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Bubbadog, you are correct on all counts. George Foreman was the HARDEST hitter I've ever seen when he was in his prime. I think he was the only man "The Greatest" ever really feared. I'm not really a nascar fan, but I was watching when Dale hit the wall. What a shame. Nobody ever put more fear in a nascar driver's rear view mirror. Tom T. Hall is from Olive Hill, Kentucky and is one of the very BEST country song writers that ever lived. He wrote "Fox On The Run." As for Billy...........well, his beer was awful, and as for the other fella.....don't know him and don't want to. I beg your pardon, but....."Who Dat?" ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboyLynn Anderson Back to Mr. Curtis Waddell. I don't know how many of you knew him, but he was a fine man & an outstanding horseman. The Waddells I knew were a great family & I'm sure the younger ones are, too. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumYalluns, I want to tell You all the story bout a Harper Valley Widows Life! Tom T wrote thatun 2! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYes, that's right Sadlbum, He also wrote "The Year Clayton Delaney Died." One of my faves was "Old Dogs, Children & Watermelon Wine." The last song he wrote to hit #1 on the charts was "Little Bitty" by Alan Jackson back in 1996. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettI would like to have the Royalties off just those 4 songs ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Graymare"Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine" was one of my Dad's favorites. He used to go around singing it and that song fit him perfectly. It still brings a tear every time I hear it. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboy"Clayton Delaney" was always one of my favorites. It was the first Tom T. Hall song I ever heard. There is a line in there about the guitar that I think also applies very well to the horse business..."there ain't no money in it. It'll lead you to an early grave". ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyI was thinking Tom T. wrote "Reuben James" as well, but that's not right. That song was written by Kenny Rogers. I like it as well. See if you know the song that these Tom T. Lyrics are from: 1. " It makes me a jolly good fellow." 2. "little baby ducks, old pick-up trucks, slow-moving trains, and rain" 3. "And if you smell Shirley Thompson's breath, you'll find she's had a little nip of gin" 4. "sittin' on the back porch listen to the whippoorwills late in the day" 5. "Nobody ever knew it but I went out in the woods and I cried" 6. "She walks through the corn leadin' down to the river Her hair shone like gold in the hot mornin' sun" ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumI'll try it: 1. 2. I love 3. Harper Valley PTA 4. Country Is 5. Clayton Delaney 6. Fox on the Run ____________________________________________________________________________________________ MasonAnother line in that song always made me think of W.Horse trainers outside of Middle Tennessee "Clayton who seemed so good to me..I wondered why he didnt take his guitar and make it down in Tenn O see" ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboy1. I Like Beer ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Sadlbum & Deltaboy, your Tom T. Hall answers are correct! Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumYalluns, Back to Ole TT, He sang about "Ravishing Ruby" also. I think that Lady above is on Her Hubbies Hoss & was in some Tn tourism Commercials! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Mason Is that Patsy Bruce on the horse ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREYep Mason, that's Patsy. Think her and Ed got a D.I.V.O.R.C.E, several yrs back. Glad SADLBUM mentioned the great brood mare RAVISHING RUBY. She was owned by the late Billy Maddox. A fine fellar and knowledgeable breeder. RUBY produced THE LEGEND, CABBAGE ROW JOE, and REVELATION. ROWDY REV is ofcourse by REVELATION. Looks like Patsy would have kept those sandals in the stirrup and it appears she is wearing a spur, with the sandals. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ cbI still have some communication with Patsy every year or so. She lives in Franklin. I loved those classes when the Celebs. rode. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyOK den.......Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyHint: this Celebrity Celebration rider had a hit song in the 70's that had something to do with "edible wild vegetation." ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, Evrybody said it was a shame, that Her mama was working on a chain gang. Billy Joe White & Poke Sallet Annie ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogThe gators got her granny. My younger sister used to try to sing this song but didn't know the words - she thought that he was saying "poke sallet at him" ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Yep, Billie Joe White is the man. I didn't know that Poke Sallet grew down in the swamp. Does anyone know what other famous singer recorded this song? and by the way,..........Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Now thats Ed Bruce ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GraymareOnly the best singer ever (well, maybe that is a little strong) was the other to record this song......Elvis!! ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyElvls is CORRECT! So who won this celebrity class anyway??? Was it George Foreman? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREPretty sure TOM T. won the class. Guess GEORGE wasen't upset with his ribbon, or some judges may have ended up in Vanderbilt trauma. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Who Dat'n? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumHint, Sired by Roan Allen F-38. Looks like the picture was made in town. Thats a big pol of far wud in the back ground. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ deltaboyBrantley's Roan Allen Jr.? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyFavors him a bit, but not quite. It ain't Moe or Larry....... ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettGood Clue Smitty --Curley Spotted Allen ? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty That's it E!!! Spelled "Curlee's Spotted Allen." Sired 405 foals, 1928-1950. Great old photograph. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettWho Dey? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumDeltaboy, Wasn't Slippery Allen by Curlee's Spotted Allen? F-38 Junior was a big boned hoss & as You can see, Spotted Allen was purty KEEN! I got that picture in that stack of pedigree's that I recently bought. That little booger with the coverhalls on, in the lower picture, is shore nuf cute. The editor of the old Southern Horsemans son, loaned Mason & Me this picture. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ GuestSadlbum: I think his name was TOMMY Joe White. Had coffee with him once at a Waffle House in Jackson, TN. Well, I doubt if he considered us having coffee together--there was an empty stool between us. I said hi, but I don't think he recognized me.

Everett, I called Lee a few weeks ago to tell him about the other picture of him that was on here [Montgomery '64]. I asked him to call me back after looking at it. He never did. I think he's pretty much over all this. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everettdeltaboy I knew Lee when he was a kid like in that picture, but i don't recall him as he got older ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who's Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbum Everett, He's one of 3 trainer brothers, He had Cannon County ties. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMARE Only ones I know of would be Sam, Donald, and Forrest. I was told it was the same thing that killed John Ritter and you seldom survive. I also heard he has something cancerous on his back and it's inoperatable. He has to use a walker now and may weigh 150 lbs. Peggy Mervine takes care of Bill but he's able to get out and drive. S & M can probably give you a more complete update. Bonus: What's his breeding? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREWell...His pappy is that horse pictured a couple of days back, when he WAS black. His mammy was a Pusher mare. Remember, the one I thought was owned by THE SCOPE MAN. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Looks like Masquerading and Knox tome. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyCorrect on both counts! I find this horse's breeding very interesting. He has Ebony Masterpiece, The Pusher, Threat's Supreme and Delight's Adonis in his pedigree all going back to Midnight Sun, Sun's Delight, Triple Threat, Midnight Mack K. and Go Boy's Flying Cloud. I believe I heard he also had one of the great old foundation mares in his pedigree, although I can't remember which one that was. Not many horses have this many champions in their pedigree. I never got to see this horse, but I'm happy to see old friend Dee Dee and the Gilbert Miller family win it with Masquerading. A good bunch of folks. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69It was heartbreaking when he passed away .I'm sure Dee Dee was heartbroken as were his many fans.Luckily he has some good offspring in the ring. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogI never got to see him either but I know that I would really have liked him. I've seen a slightly different shot of him from the same location, I think. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyYep, you got it Larry. That's PJ, the hoss with the "big motah". Can anyone name ALL the trainers who have worked PJ at one time? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ LarryWell, Mr. Bullington is the only one I can think of for sure. There were probably several others since he was about 10 y/o when he won. Did we have a post once saying which horse was the oldest WGC? Seems Pushover and Mountain Man were both 10, maybe Flashy Pride. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ sadlbumSmitty, One of the Shaw Twins has been dead for about five years. They have a barn close to Myron Wolavers (Dougs Dad) in the Diana community between Lewisburg & Pulaski Tn. They used to break alot of colts for the Trainers near them. They married identical twins, lived in the same house & shared the same bank account. Orris's son Jeff shoes for Steve Aymett & some others. Claude another old trainer was their brother. I think Phillip Wilson once worked Prides Jubilee Star. I think PJ would have looked great in a halter class also. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ cbI believe there were about 8 trainer's who worked him....I know Bill had him for awhile....OHM can probably name all of them. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ONEHOTMAREI think ya'll named them all (that worked P.J.) except Dude and Buddy, Ricky Womack, and he was at Landrums, maybe 3 months. Phillip will tell you today, that he loved P.J., but there is a funny story about Dude and Buddy once wanting to shoot him. Ofcourse they weren't really going to shoot P.J., but he must have been a real hellyon as a young horse. He certainly passed that big motah on to his offspring. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogOHM - Kirby told me that tale - it was hilarious! Kirby's sense of humor was very dry - there was lots of profanity in the telling. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smittyBill Sledge is also listed as having worked PJ. Larry, As for the oldest WC.......I think we did determine that Mtn. Man was just a tad older than Flashy Pride when he won it, by about a month I think. Not sure about Pushover. Also, for some reason I am INTRIGUED with the Shaw Twins. They strike me as being quite unusual. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Everett Who Dat ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogIs that Kirby and the aforementioned horse? I can't really see it - this lap top is teeny. E where you getting all these picshurs? You got a secret stash too? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettBubbadog, thats not Kirby and not the fore mention horse, this trainers Dad also trained horses, look close you know him ,i got friends that supply the pictures, good aren't they ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69E,I've seen that pic before but fore the life of me I don't remember who it is unless it is a young Winky. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ EverettS69, Its not winky, from E. I think that's all of em'. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Bubba,I was hangin with Dude and Buddy Kirby around then and yes they were about to shoot him and it made for a pretty funny story.PJ was quite the character, but you know he was always a GREAT horse throughout his life. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ smitty Who Dat? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ senator69Mr. Bud and RPM ____________________________________________________________________________________________ BubbadogOne time back in t he dark ages, my friend Jimmy Black purchased a horse from John T Carter - he told him to work him with a "double war" bit - it took Jimmy forever to figure out that "double war" meant "double wire".
