| Great video, Smitty. I always look forward to when you put up a new blast from the past. Asheville was always a show that I looked forward to. I was there the night of this class and have to say that I agreed with the crowd. Bull and Magic Man were the best that night. I loved watching Ramsey ride that horse. I don't think I ever saw them make a bad show. I liked Ultra Copy better as a young horse. I think he was at his best at 3. He seemed to lose something as he got older. Red Mark was always a nice horse, but he just never really tripped my trigger for some reason. To me, he always looked like he was ducking in the bridle and wanting to put his head between his knees. Well, a nice class of horses no matter how they were tied.
Thanks for the video | |

| Curbchain,
You sound like you sho' nuff know your stuff. You should fit in well here. Yeah, I thought Cantrell's hoss came apart a little the 2cd way. Thought Red Mark got better as he went, but Ramsey had the most consistent and timed up horse in that ring.
Big Ed & Everett, I'd like to hear your comments.....

| I thought you could have tied either one of the first Three, each one had their moments, Cantrall's was real good the first way, But | |

| Smitty, Thanks for the compliment. I just know what I like when I see it and I do hope I fit in with this group. I really dig the site. As far as knowing my stuff, I should have written a book back when I was 20. That was when I knew everything :). Now I'm old enough to realize just how much I don't know. Aahhh, youth is so wasted on the young.
Hey, just to change subjects a little bit, have you ever thought of adding like a "The Best" section. With so much collective knowledge on here, I'd like to hear other people's opinions on subjects like
the best broodmare and why the best breeder and why the best show you've ever seen the best pass you've ever seen the best horse that never got the wins/attention/respect he/she deserved the best horseman and why and so on and so forth
Just throwing this out there to see what you guys think about some of these questions.

| CurbChain, The best pass that I ever saw, was when Prides Secret Threat & Eb's Black Diamond were 4 year olds. They went from the north end to the lineup in the south turn, stride for stride. PST was tied first & Diamond was second, but you couldn't convince Pete Anderson that his horse was second. I think this was in the preliminary & Andersons had the picture put in the Report the day of the final, they titled the picture, you make the choice! | |

| Sadlbum, I remember that night too. I had another bout with a sore throat after that one!!! That was one AWESOME class and quite a battle. Truthfully, I might also have sided with Mr. Anderson. That was also a great picture. Maybe Smitty or someone can find and post it. | |

| That gets my vote for the top spot also. I can still close my eyes and see it. I was already a big Secret Threat fan, but that sealed it for me. | |

| Ultra Copy was the best horse without a doubt. He beat them so bad the first way, that when he lost a little the second way, it didn't matter. The Red Mark horse always was ducky in the bridle. Ramsey's horse was timed up good for the lick he was doing but that quick lick doesn't compare with Copy's way of going. Eddie | |

| You're right, Everett. She is a good filly. She caught my eye when I first watched the vids this afternoon.
Take a look back at the 2 yr old Amatuer Stud class also. There's a black colt in there #441, I believe. His name is I'm the Dark Knight. He tied fifth in the class because he was trying to do a gear that the lady just couldn't handle. The video shows very little of him, a snip in the beginning and a pass to the line up. That pass to the line up made me sit up and rewind a couple of times. There's something about that colt I really like.
Speaking of Mr. Ramsey and Onehotmare, does that colt that won the 2 yr old Am. Stud class remind anyone of The Snow Job, or is it just me?

| Sadlbum, I think the standoff duel between Secret Threat and Black Diamond was in the Jr. Stake. In the preliminary class, Secret Threat didn't canter one way and was tied way down, 6th. or 7th., I think. But it was certainly one of the greatest duels, and about as exciting as anything I ever saw. | |

| If you watch the Lewisburg Am. 2yr. stud class the first horse in the ring and also tying reserve was our very own Marketwatch,Cindy Sullivan ridin a pretty sporty colt by Powerstroke.Cindy also tied reserve in one of the other Am. mare and gelding classes with her past WC Marketwatch. It was the Am. canter class. | |

| Congrats to Marketwatch on two fine rides!
Exhibiting a Walking Horse 101
Folks, if anyone out there wants to see a textbook example of how to exhibit a show horse, then check out the Four Year Old Amateur Stallion class at Lewisburg. Sherri Ward won the class on a gray roan. Now, she's riding a darn nice horse, but there are several in there that are potentially just as good. The DIFFERENCE and the main reason she won that class was the RIDE she made and how she showed her horse. She ADDS to the overall appearance of the horse. The LITTLE things DO MATTER! First of all, notice how she sits her horse as compared to some of the others. She's sitting BACK on her mount and is RELAXED. Next, notice her hands.......they are STILL. No snatching or jerking or trying to help the horse in the mouth. If she does anything, she does it with her FINGERS, not her hands and arms. Also watch her head. It never moves (except once when she sneaks a peek in the curve) and although she is very aware of where the judge is, she never shows any indication that she knows he's standing there. She does a good job of spacing out and keeping her horse by himself and keeps him ON THE RAIL. I think the best thing she has always been extremely good at is riding her horse at the right SPEED and just letting him walk. I've never seen her OVERRIDE a horse or get in a hurry. She's been doing it a long time and she is a PRO.
Cool as a cucumber..................always has been, always will be.

| Amen Smitty - Last night I watched some of the classes at the International and I am just bumfuddled at the "technique" displayed by some of the riders. They just look so UNCOMFORTABLE and either stiff as boards or twitchy. A bad rider can make a great horse look terrible and a good rider make a better horse out of one that is mediocre. We could all take some lessons from Sheri. | |

| I just watched the Pulaski Championship class. I have never seen a horse go quite like the one Jimmy Mc is riding. He did every gait (except walk) in the book. Would go from a flat pace to a bold trot and never hit anything between. The Coach was real nice. If John Allen wouldn't set a horse the way he does. If you look closely, John's legs are back so far that the horse's hip bumps into John's spurs every now and then and that is what makes him miss a beat behind. | |

| I agree with yall about sitting a horse & posture. Last night at the Int., I saw a new wrinkle on riding by some females. They sit dead weight on their rearend, put no weight on their feet or legs & the result is some vulger movements both upper & lower torsoe. Mostly this was in western classes & it seemed to pay off too. | |

| I agree with you guys, some of the young trainers out there look just awful sitting on a horse. Many have their stirrups about 6 inches too long and their heads are shaking more than the horse's.
Sadlbum, I agree with you on McConnell's horse at Pulaski. I've seen 3 Gaited horses and I've seen 5 Gaited horses, but that was an 8 Gaited horse that never did the right Gait.
Many thanks to Smitty for the videos and also to TW for the Belfast/International feeds. Just so you guys know they're appreciated!!!
