| Yes, it was The Pusher ridden by Bryant Fly. He was purchased the next day by Joe Dietz. This was when the Indiana Celebration was in Indianapolis, right next to the Interstate at the fairgrounds. In the early days, the Indiana Celebration was held in New Castle, as it is currently.
I'm sorry to hear of Sherri's brother passing. I recall her brother, Gregg (I think?)...
Such a great family. | |

| Senator, the first International wasn't until 1979 (according to the WHOA web site)
Mountain Man was not an International Champion, nor do I think he was ever shown there. Matter of fact, I don't even remember Sammy ever showing there, but I could be wrong.

| Now, having said that and also checking the WHOA site to make sure I'm right.....
I DO remember Mountain Man winning the stake at a horse show here in Lexington at the Horse Park back around 77 or maybe 78 (?). This MAY have been a WHOA-sponsored show, or maybe even the first show WHOA ever put on (?) Delight's Eightball & Jumbo Boyd were 2cd and The Pusher & Bob McQuerry were 3rd. This was one of the best shows and stake classes ever held in this state and I think it was the very first all walking horse show ever held at the Ky Horse Park. Again, this may have been a WHOA show, but it was not the International....
Holly Liddell would know more about this. Her Dad, Steve was the judge.

| I'd say it's a ASB alright, but it ain't Wing Commander; he had white socks. I have a feeling that shot was taken in Missouri. | |

| Answer: A. Harrison County, Kentucky
The first horse reportedly known to do the "running walk" was "Bald Stockings", a son of Tom Hal out of a Copperbottom mare. Volume 1 of the Saddlebred Register lists him as being bred in Leesburg, Kentucky, just north of Lexington in Harrison County. He was foaled in 1837, and died in 1866 and is generally considered the "father" of all gaited horses.

| Well, since Smitty has changed my avatar again, I'll just let everyone know who that old horse was. His name was Sensational Sundust, the first "good" horse that I had. We bought him from Wink Groover back in the mid 60's after Wink was reserve in the aged gelding class on him. He was my ladies and amateur mount for years and won me a lot of trophies and ribbons. He was typical Sundust a wee bit hot headed and high strung ----- but I loved him and he suited me just fine. After he was done in the ring, he lived in luxury out at MIB's barn in his own suite with a turnout that it took him forever to figure out how to use - he just could not seem to grasp the concept of being able to go outside. But once he caught on, he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Good memories, Smitty - thanks for putting that up there! His "real" registered name was Sundust Sputnik. | |
